gregs@herald-mail.com HAGERSTOWN - The closest thing to a professional sporting event that Heather Murphy had ever attended was a high school football game. Murphy, 19, set out to change that Friday night by going to a Hagerstown Suns game. She did not know the Suns were expecting their 3 millionth fan, who would be given season tickets next year as part of a $1,400 prize package. Murphy wasn't the 3 millionth fan. It turned out that Darren Eddy, 38, of Greencastle, Pa., was the 3 millionth Hagerstown Suns fan to walk through the turnstiles.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Despite cold, damp weather, hundreds of children toting pastel buckets hunted for plastic eggs Saturday morning on the grounds of Chambersburg Memorial Park. At 15-minute intervals, an air horn on a fire engine sounded, and different age groups rushed onto the playground. Most groups cleared the grounds of eggs in only a minute or two. The hunt was to have included a separate time for children with disabilities. Robert Murray, assistant fire chief for the borough of Chambersburg, said he thought it was important to have the special division.

Week of Dec. 30, 1957 An indication that tuberculosis is no longer the "white plague" it was called decades ago is evidenced in the report that there are now only 120 tubercular patients at the nearby Victor Cullen State Hospital, which once had 500 patients. The original four buildings of frame construction are being razed on the hospital's 310-acre tract, and no replacement is envisioned. While the Cullen hospital will not be closed altogether, it will continue in operation at a reduced capacity.
