Prime Outlets of Hagerstown is the site of a Pet Angel Tree to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. Set up in the food court, the Pet Angel Tree was established to supplement the HSWC's Home 4 the Holidays Adoption Campaign. The tree features ornaments listing items the HSWC needs and a copy of the shelter's Wish List with additional needed items. To make a donation to the Pet Angel Tree, choose an item to purchase and return it to the donation box. Participants can write their name on the back of the ornament they choose or on one of the labels provided at the tree.

From the Midnight Madness Pajama Jam at Prime Outlets at Hagerstown to the early openings of Valley Mall and other retail stores, thousands of shoppers lined up to take advantage of bargains on Black Friday. Aside from incidents at the outlets and Circuit City at the Centre at Hagerstown, many Washington County retailers and police agencies reported a normal Black Friday. Fire reported at former Lowe's warehouse Hagerstown Police Department officers responding to a security alarm Thursday night at the former Lowe's warehouse on Wesel Boulevard found a small fire made from firecrackers in the vacant building, Sgt. David Long said. Long said that officers discovered that the rear warehouse front door was broken into. Officers put the fire out within five minutes of responding to the call, Long said. Fire empties food court at Prime Outlets A small fire at the Great Steak and Potato Co. caused minimal damage, but emptied the food court at Prime Outlets for a while Saturday.

Liz Claiborne Inc. will close its outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico by early 2011, the company said in a press release. The Liz Claiborne store at Prime Outlets at Hagerstown was not mentioned specifically, but the release said all 87 outlet locations would close. With the closing of the outlet stores, Liz Claiborne will launch its clothing line at J.C. Penney next month, the release said. "As a result of this decision, the company expects the meaningful operating losses related to this business to be eliminated in early 2011 when this action is anticipated to be completed," the release said.

WASHINGTON COUNTY - The mother of a 2-year-old child and her boyfriend were charged Friday morning after the child was found alone in a vehicle during the midnight Black Friday shopping event at Prime Outlets at Hagerstown, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Department press release. Laura Ashley Havens, 20, of 11450 Pine Hill Drive in Waynesboro, Pa., was charged with one count each of reckless endangerment and confining an unattended child, deputies said. Her boyfriend, Casey Byrnes Shields, 22, of the same address, was charged with one count each of confining an unattended child, reckless endangerment, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
