"I see Hagerstown is having a spring cleanup. Williamsport has no cleanup. I guess we will have to put milk on our leaves and have them for breakfast. " "Am I mistaken, or is G.W. Bush still our president? I thought the Speaker of the House was just that. If he is, why is the Speaker of the House who is third in line for the presidency ... gee, are they planning on doing away with Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush and letting Ms. Pelosi take over? Because if they are, why don't they put a crown on her?"

GREENCASTLE, PA. - Some of the senior citizens seated at tables in the Joy El Ministries Dining Hall on Sunday said they had never heard of the Pennsylvania Dutch belief that eating pork and sauerkraut on New Year's brings good luck throughout the coming 12 months. Others had been raised with that notion, so traditions became a prominent conversation among the more than 225 people gathered for the free meal - a Joy El tradition since the 1970s. "I'm at the point where if we don't have pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day, it doesn't seem right," Georgia Hoffeditz of Chambersburg, Pa., said.

I've been a regular customer ever since. julieg@herald-mail.com It was destiny that June Bishop win The Herald-Mail's second annual name-that-product contest. We could have said fate, but fate doesn't always dictate a favorable outcome and precision counts, especially with ingredients. Bishop knows. Some contestants thought apples, water and ascorbic acid were the ingredients of apple juice, but they are the parts that make Mott's No Sugar Added Natural Apple Sauce. Bishop was a finalist in the newspaper's first such contest; getting all the answers right but losing the tie-breaking drawing to Jennifer Silbert of Sharpsburg.
