WOMEN'S HOOPS Jamie Robinson hit all seven of her shots to lead Hagerstown Community College to an easy 99-58 victory over Northern Virginia for coach Marlys Palmer's 499th career victory Monday at the HCC athletic complex. HCC (18-4) outmatched NOVA from the outset and owned a 62-20 at halftime. Chrissy Minnick had 10 points for HCC while Erika Williams and Shaushanna Faulkner had seven rebounds each. The Hawks will try to give Palmer her 500th victory on Wednesday when they play host to Harford.

An Ellicott City, Md., man died Sunday at a Virginia hospital after participating in the Tough Mudder endurance series in Berkeley County on Saturday, police said. Avishek Sengupta, 28, was pronounced dead at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Ted Snyder said Monday. Sengupta's death was ruled accidental by the Virginia medical examiner's office in Manassas, Va., which said Monday afternoon that drowning was the cause of death. Sengupta had to be removed from a fairly deep pool at the “Walk the Plank” aquatic obstacle where it appears he was submerged for too long, according to Snyder.

Hagerstown's Potterfield Pool at 730 Frederick St. will be open Tuesday through Sunday starting this week, according to the city's Department of Public Works. The new regular hours are 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.. The pool is closed on Mondays. There will be free family swims for city residents only starting Tuesday, June 10. Free family swims will run every following Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., through Aug. 5. New daily rates are $1 for preschoolers, $1.75 for students, and $2.25 for adults.

Russell Leroy Poole, 79, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Christine Brookes officiating. Burial will be in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery at a later date.

Claude M. Potterfield Pool at Staley Park will open for the season from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26, through Monday, May 28, and Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3. Beginning Monday, June 4, the pool will operate with regular swim times, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Potterfield Pool is at 730 Frederick St, Hagerstown. Season passes and daily rates are available for swimmers in addition to passes exclusively for the evening swim.
