A 34-year-old man has been charged in the armed robbery Monday night of a pizza delivery driver in the Chewsville area, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. David William Scott Mills, of no fixed address, was charged with armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, and theft of more than $100, the release said. The robbery on Twin Springs Road at Waltz Road was reported at about 10 p.m. The driver told police he had been robbed at knifepoint of cash and two pizzas, according to the release.

Three sisters are poised to open a shoe store in the building that formerly housed a pizza shop on Hagerstown's Public Square. Jocelyns' Closet will sell shoes for men, women and children at the 1 N. Potomac St. store, which will open when renovations are complete, according to Rose Jocelyn, co-owner of the business. “We believe that Hagerstown is a great opportunity for us,” Jocelyn said. “It is a great city, and we believe this is going to be successful.” Jocelyn, 32, will run the store with her sisters, Esther, 30, and Ruth, 17. All three have lived in Hagerstown since December 2008.

Washington High School student James Fletcher had been working as a pizza delivery driver for less than a week before he was killed on the job Sunday near Ranson, W.Va., his former employer said. “He was making a delivery,” said Alfredo Maya, owner of Brothers Pizza 2 on South Mildred Street in Ranson. “He was a nice, quiet kid.” He said Fletcher recently worked as a dishwasher at The Mediterranean Cafe in Charles Town, W.Va., another restaurant owned by Maya. But Fletcher left there to work with his father, who manages the pizza shop.

A Martinsburg man is accused of sexually abusing a woman after she delivered four pizzas to his home, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Jason Andrew Welsh, 27, of 180 Longbranch Drive, was arraigned Wednesday on one count of first-degree sexual abuse by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, according to court documents. Welsh was released from custody after bond was posted for a $50,000 bail, the documents said. The pizza from Papa John's at 728 Foxcroft Ave. in Martinsburg was delivered around the lunch hour Monday by a woman, who told police that the defendant attempted to kiss her on her mouth and was lifting her shirt and grabbing at her body before she managed to get away from him, the records said.

A Domino's Pizza driver was robbed while he was making a delivery Tuesday night in the 400 block of North Potomac Street in Hagerstown, police said. The driver was approached at about 10:15 p.m. by a man who didn't show a weapon but threatened to use one if the driver didn't cooperate, police said. The robber fled behind a building after making off with the driver's cell phone, wallet and Bluetooth. Police described the robber as a male in his 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.

One person was injured Thursday afternoon in an accident in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue near Longmeadow Road, Deputy Smith of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. The accident happened when a red Chevrolet hit the back of another car parked in the parking lot. The Chevrolet then spun out of control onto the street and hit the median on Pennsylvania Avenue, Smith said. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Meritus Medical Center with minor injuries, Smith said.

It has always been a favorite of high school students and local residents in the mood for a good pizza.   Recently, however, Tony's has expanded and remodeled, taking over the Laundromat facilities next door, and become an honest-to-goodness sit-down restaurant. My dining companions, Pap Ricka, Penny Pasta and Mack Aroni joined me for a visit.
