We want to run readers' photos on this weekly photo page. So we're looking for the best recent photographs from the Tri-State area. This is a chance for amateur photographers to share their talent. Quality is key. If you have captured a spontaneous and beautiful moment between a parent and child, send it to us. If you've got an interesting exposure of the moon, we'll take a look at it. If it's just some crazy moment, send it in. We will not have space for family portraits, posed scenes or news photos that are published elsewhere in the newspaper.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro resident Bob Ringer, known for his collection of thousands of local historical photos, died Tuesday. Ringer, 81, spent his life in Waynesboro and as early as age 15, he began assuming the role of local historian by collecting photos of the area in its early days. Ruth Gembe didn't meet Ringer until later in life when he sought out her help in researching the history of some of the photos that came into his possession.

BELISLE Staff Writer, Waynesboro WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A back room of the Waynesboro library is crammed with more than 400 photographs, some taken before the turn of the century, that depict in black and white much of the history of the community. The display, which runs through August at the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, is only a sample of old photographs gathered up over 60 years by Bob Ringer of Waynesboro. Ringer, 75, known as a local historian, has been collecting photos about Waynesboro since he was 15. Some are his own. Most were loaned so he could make copies.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro Historical Society's new cookbook will be arriving soon, just in time for holiday gift-giving. "Culinary Traditions II: A Taste of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania," is a companion volume to the historical society's previous cookbook. In addition to 476 new recipes, each cookbook contains historical photos, cooking tips, and pages of local interest. The book features recipes in several categories including appetizers, breads, soups, salads, entres, side dishes and desserts.

Katy Haupt , 15, of Boonsboro, sees everything as a potential photo. She has enjoyed photography since she was very young. Lydia Hadfield , 15, of Jefferson, Md., enjoys biking, hiking, reading and writing. She is homeschooled. Fedora Copley , 13, is a homeschooler living in Hagerstown. She likes to travel and experience America's regional differences. Tyler Austin , 15, a sophomore at Boonsboro High School, has friends who are vegetarian. Rowan Copley , 16, is a homeschooler living in Hagerstown.

waynesboro@herald-mail.com GREENCASTLE, Pa. - The number of families who placed photos of servicemen and servicewomen in the front window of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce has grown to five. The two newest photos are of Army Capt. Jeremy Hirneisen, 33, who is stationed in Kuwait, and 2nd Lt. Rachael M. Ott, 22, who is on temporary duty in Texas awaiting her permanent assignment. Hirneisen's wife, Susan, said her husband has been in Kuwait since April 2. He is in command of a transportation unit that delivers gasoline and fuel to U.S. forces.

Valley Mall is extending an invitation to those in the community with family members serving in the armed forces, volunteer fire and rescue, career fire and rescue and law enforcement to drop off a photograph for display this weekend. The photos will be collected on Saturday and Sunday only at the Guest Service Center across from The Bon-Ton. Photos will be immediately placed on display by mall staff. The display honoring those who serve will remain until Saturday, Sept.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Holly Burkett, administrative assistant for the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce, said Monday the Chamber still is looking for photographs of local servicemen and servicewomen serving in the war in Iraq to place in the Chamber office's front window at 217 E. Baltimore St. The families of four local servicemen already have placed photos in the window, Burkett said. They include the families of Matthew Jansen, 25, a 1997 Greencastle-Antrim High School graduate, now a helicopter crewman aboard an ammunition supply ship attached to the battle group of the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman.

wandaw@herald-mail.com HAGERSTOWN - Community response to The Herald-Mail Co.'s request for historical photographs featured in the new limited-edition publication, "Washington County, Maryland, Our Past Our People, A Historical Portrait, Volume I" was overwhelming - greater than book project director Michele Wills expected. "As soon as the ads soliciting photos started to run, the phone didn't stop ringing," Wills said. "We collected close to 1,000 photos for the first volume of the book.
