A reader recently emailed The Herald-Mail to point out a pair of large potholes in a North End alley in Hagerstown that she felt was cause for concern because of the potential damage to vehicles. Gloria Thomas said in an email that the potholes are at both ends of the busy alley that runs between the 100 block of Broadway and the 100 block of North Avenue. The alley is parallel to North Mulberry Street near Fairgrounds Park. “The hole near Broadway has been filled from time to time by residents with bricks and other rocks, but needs a real repair,” Thomas said in her email.

Editor's note: Each Monday, The Herald-Mail will highlight an infrastructure issue or other problem and will try to find out what is being done to fix or improve the situation. We will not tackle situations involving neighborhood or domestic disputes or consumer problems. The problem: At the Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run golf course, the protective netting separating the course from neighboring yards is tattered and torn in places. Stephen Owings of Hagerstown, who wrote in about the problem, said he was walking past the golf course when he noticed the netting "just blowing in the wind" along the right fairway of the second hole, where the course borders nearby homes.
