South boys hang on By BOB PARASILITI / Staff Writer MIDDLETOWN, Md. - The bigger South Hagerstown's lead got, the shorter coach Bob Starkey's fingernails became. "I told (assistant coach Carlton Branson) 'This is as nervous as I have ever been with an 18-point lead,'" Starkey said. "He said he had the same feeling. " The butterflies in Starkey's stomach soon turned into buzzards in the last 3 1/2 minutes of Thursday's opening game of the Rod Engle Classic.

Kate Martin and Jesse Reeder were married Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at the Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, N.Y. The bride is the daughter of Ray and Lori Martin of Tupper Lake, N.Y. She is a 2001 graduate of Tupper Lake High School, a 2005 graduate of Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in community health education and nutrition, and a 2006 graduate of University of Tennessee with a master's degree in public health. She is employed as community health education specialist for the Harford County Health Department in Edgewood, Md. The bridegroom is the son of Nelson and Cindy Reeder of Boonsboro.

PREP VOLLEYBALL CUMBERLAND, Md. - Lea Drury had 28 assists to lead Williamsport past top-seed Fort Hill 25-23, 25-19, 25-14 in the Maryland Class 1A West semifinals Wednesday evening, setting up a rematch of last year's 1A West final against Boonsboro. Sammi Snodderly had nine kills, and Lacie Johnson had nine kills and 17 digs for the Wildcats (13-3), the defending three-time Class 1A state champions. Liberty 3, South Hagerstown 0 ELDERSBURG, Md. - Brittany Hyatt had nine assists, five kills and 12 digs, but the Rebels fell to the top-seeded Lions, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.

JUNE 22, 1923-SEPT. 27, 2009 Dorothy Mae Delauter, 86, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Loyalton in Hagerstown. Born June 22, 1923, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Claude L. and Flavia Hartle Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. Delauter, on May 25, 2001. She was previously employed with Reisner's, Porter Chemical, Southern Shoe and Moller Organ Co., all in Hagerstown. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Amanda Marie Hammann and Ryan James McDonald were married on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hagerstown. The bride is the daughter of Arnold and Lynne Hammann of Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of Edward and Cynthia McDonald of Hagerstown. The bride is a 2001 graduate of Williamsport High School, a 2005 graduate of Unversity of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science in physiology and neurobiology, and a 2008 graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore with a Master of Science in biotechnology.

Mary Jeane (Hovis) Potts, 75, of 100 Birch Knoll Road, Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center. Born Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1936, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Edward Hovis and the late Pauline Louis (Fouke) Hovis. She was a volunteer with the Board of Election Supervisors at Eastern Elementary for many years. She will be especially remembered as loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Samuel Thomas Potts; daughters, Cynthia J. Long and companion, Douglas A. Koenig, of Hagerstown and Sandra K. Lorshbaugh of Hagerstown; sister, Gail L. Collieflower and husband, John, of Hagerstown; brother, Ronald F. Hovis and wife, Doris, of Hagerstown; grandson, Donald E. Wishard III of Roswell, Ga., grandson, Roy Lee Lorshbaugh Jr. of Perry Hall, Md.; granddaughter, Kelli L. Long of Hagerstown, granddaughter, Jennifer Conn of Arnold, Md., granddaughter, Jodi M. Mueller of Moneta, Va., granddaughter, Kristi D. Spangler of Hagerstown and adopted granddaughter, Jackie Brown of Hagerstown; several beloved great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
