Robert E. Klein, 72 AUG. 31, 1936-FEB. 16, 2009 CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert Edward Klein, 72, of 2715 Esther Drive, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born Aug. 31, 1936, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward Klein and Carrie Greiner Stadtlander Klein of Pittsburgh. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Arts Degree in Art from Pennsylvania State University, he taught for three years in the public schools and seven years at the college level.

Roberts-Martin Melanie Roberts and Bob Martin announce their engagement. Ms. Roberts is the daughter of Paul and Angela Roberts of Smithsburg. She is a 1998 graduate of Smithsburg High School and received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Salisbury University in 2001. She is employed by Frederick County Public Schools as a first grade teacher at Orchard Grove Elementary School in Frederick, Md. Mr. Martin is the son of Randy and Sandy Martin of Greencastle, Pa. He is a 1996 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

Hagerstown audiologist earns advanced degree Karen May, an audiologist in practice with Dr. Charles Supernavage in Hagerstown, has been awarded a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree by Salus University's George S. Osborne College of Audiology in Elkins Park, Pa. May earned a Bachelor of Science in speech pathology and audiology at West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va. She earned a Master of Science in audiology at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa. In addition to working with Supernavage, May also practices at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and at Hear Here Audiology, both in Martinsburg, W.Va.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Rebecca E. Erb clutched her silver cell phone on her lap when the Tuscarora School Board voted 8-0 to hire her as the district's new superintendent. She then quietly slipped to the hallway to call Tyrone Area School District and authorize the submittal of her resignation at its simultaneous school board meeting Monday. The rural school districts often seem similar to Erb as she gets to know Tuscarora better. "They just seem like the kids at home," said Erb, who was a high school principal in the Tyrone district.

AUG. 18, 1944-DEC. 10, 2009 Richard Oliver "Ric" Petricig, Ph.D., 65, of 112 Pangborn Blvd., Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Washington County Hospital. Born Aug. 18, 1944, in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Melio and Mona Ruth Arford Petricig Nixon. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Vickie; stepdaughter, Christy Lewis and husband Troy of Hagerstown; stepson, Jason Presgraves and wife Lorraine of Hagerstown; two sisters, Sandy Garland of Robinson, Pa., and Cheryl Simpson of Utah; three brothers, Patrick Petricig of New York, William Nixon and wife Sharon of Robinson, Pa., and Douglas Nixon and wife Tawnia of Bolivar; and his dear friend and cousin Ann Holtzman.

"No matter where you go, people recognize the name Penn State and Penn State quality," said David Gnage, chancellor of Penn State Mont Alto. It was the clout of the old state that convinced Erica Sexton of McConnellsburg, Pa., to start a new career as a teacher with a degree from the university.

FROSTBURG, Md. - Gregory Shedd of Middletown, Md., has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Frostburg State University. In addition, Shedd received the distinction of a 4.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Timothy Mariner of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall quarter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He is majoring in software engineering. He is the son of Timothy and Tammy Mariner of Hagerstown.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - When the call went out for "Four strong actresses in their 20s needed to portray modern versions of legendary movie actresses Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Dorothy Lamour and Natalie Wood," 10 young women from the Tri-State area responded. Saturday, the women waited quietly in a hallway of the Cumberland Valley School of Music building on the campus of Wilson College for their turn to audition. In the next room, Jenny Kreyl, Mike Shoeman and Kelly Dell listened intently as the actresses read lines from the play "Crystal Weeds.

The bride is the daughter of John and Linda Wintermoyer of Williamsport. The bridegroom is the son of Ioan and Floarea Danu of Reading, Pa. The bride is a 1998 graduate of Williamsport High School and attends Shippensburg University, majoring in secondary education. The bridegroom is a 1993 graduate of Reading High School and Reading Vo-Tech with a degree in electronics.

Nussear-Seymour Kaylor Frances Seymour and Brian Patrick Nussear were married Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines, Md. The bride is the daughter of Frank and Betty Seymour of Loretto, Pa. The bridegroom is the son of Philip and Maxine Nussear of Hagerstown. The bride is a 1997 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, Pa., and received a Bachelor of Science in hotel, restaurant and institutional management from Pennsylvania State University.

" He's known for his musical talent, particularly on the organ, and for his community spirit. He even wrote Chambersburg's theme song, "Onward Chambersburg. " Mowrey's spirit of helping his community was officially recognized recently when he received the fourth annual Mike Waters Citizen of the Year award, which recognizes a person who in the last year or over a lifetime has contributed the most to the borough on a volunteer basis, Assistant Borough Manager David Finch said.
