Police in Martinsburg have confirmed a pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle along Foxcroft Avenue on Sunday. Additional information is expected to be released this evening, Martinsburg Police Lt. Terry Stanley said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery of a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon on Nursery Road near Hagerstown. Deputies went to the dead end of Nursery Road after the robbery was reported at about 2:15 p.m., a sheriff's office news release said. The victim, whose name was not released, told investigators he was walking in the area of the railroad tracks between Nursery Road and Massey Boulevard when he was approached by two males, the release said.

A pedestrian was injured in a vehicle accident on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown Wednesday afternoon, city police said. The vehicle was traveling north on South Potomac Street about 3:23 p.m., when the pedestrian came from between two parked cars in the area of Locust Point and hit the side of the vehicle, a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman said. The pedestrian's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the spokesman said.

EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Two people were killed Sunday morning when a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer driven by a Fayetteville, Pa., woman rapidly accelerated in reverse and struck three pedestrians while the woman was attempting to parallel park along North Seton Avenue, police said. The incident at 121 N. Seton Ave. occurred as a group of people gathered along the street after a church service, according to The Associated Press. Patricia Mauro-Cillo, 64, and John Cillo, 53, both of Emmitsburg, were killed, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

WAYNESBORO, PA. -- New regulations placing responsibility on pedestrians in the Borough of Waynesboro took a significant step toward being enacted on Wednesday. The Waynesboro Borough Council agreed to advertise a new crosswalk ordinance that would prohibit pedestrians from crossing the street without using a crosswalk or intersection with traffic signals in the Town Center District. That zoning district includes the core of downtown from North Street to Second Street. The council will consider the ordinance for adoption at its next meeting on May 5. Council members questioned how the ordinance would affect the rest of the borough.

WAYNESBORO, PA. -- New regulations being considered in Waynesboro would place increased responsibility on pedestrians to prevent pedestrian accidents. The borough has had at least 50 pedestrian accidents since January 2004, according to published reports. Police responded to one, without reported injuries, Tuesday. "We've got a lot of pedestrian accidents in the borough," Police Chief Mark King said. "There is no rhyme or reason. " King worked with Borough Engineer Kevin Grubbs in reviewing a sample ordinance provided in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Local Technical Assistance Programs (LTAPs)

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Efforts continue to create a four-way stop for pedestrians at the intersection of East Main Street and East Second Street, but some town leaders are questioning why one wasn't already in place. Washington Township (Pa.) Manager Mike Christopher said he found a 1996 letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in which PennDOT agreed to stop all traffic for pedestrians. WAYNESBORO, PA. -- The Waynesboro Borough Council wants to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of East Main Street, Mickley Avenue and East Second Street, although the project continues to get costlier. Council members agreed Wednesday they want to create a four-way stop for traffic if pedestrians press a crossing button. Councilman Ronnie Martin, street committee chairman, said an estimated $1,300 will be needed to change the traffic signal's controller. On top of that, Martin said he's been told the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation wants to require a traffic study that would cost about $2,000.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A 62-year-old Jefferson County man was flown Friday morning to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center after he was struck by a car while pushing a snow blower along Cloverdale Road, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Lowell V. Barnard, who lives in the Cloverdale Heights subdivision, underwent surgery at the hospital, but Deputy A.S. Hockman said he did not have any information on his condition. The accident, which was reported at 7:32 a.m., occured just east of Heath Drive, police said.
