Saturday, January 28, 2012 BOYS BASKETBALL Tyrus Fleetwood hit 9 of 16 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and posted a career-high 29 points to lead St. Maria Goretti past Broadfording Christian 83-47 on Saturday. Martin Geben had 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals for Goretti (14-9). Yannick Zanfack had 11 points and five steals. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 BOYS BASKETBALL HANCOCK - Chad Sipe posted a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead Hancock to an 87-59 victory over visiting Paw Paw on Tuesday. Betty Jane Leypoldt, 76, of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at her residence while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Stephon Reed officiating. Burial will be private.

Hancock used a consistent rotation that got every player on the score sheet in the Panthers’ 74-15 rout of Paw Paw Friday. “We got all the kids in tonight, which is what we wanted to do,” Hancock coach Todd Ruppenthal said. “I was really pleased with how everyone played tonight.” Maureen Leavy paced Hancock (6-10) with a double-double, scoring 20 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Sara Wagner added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Lyndsay Himes scored 10 points with eight rebounds.

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 BOYS BASKETBALL HANCOCK — Five Panthers scored in double figures as Hancock jumped out to a 26-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back in a 79-55 win over Paw Paw on Tuesday night. Logan Ray led the way with a team-high 14 points, while Spencer Heller had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and added four blocks for Hancock (5-12). Jarrod McCoy had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, Eli Souders had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Jamie Martin added 11 points.

NOV. 21, 1928-DEC. 22, 2010 Patricia Ann Guhr, 82, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Williamsport Retirement Village. Born Nov. 21, 1928, in Paw Paw, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clifton Leo and Esther Sirbaugh McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Guhr, who passed away in December 1978. She worked as a dietary aide at Ravenwood Lutheran Village until her retirement after 25 years in May of 1993.

The service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodrow Union Church Cemetery near Paw Paw, W.Va.
