Friday, October 19, 2012 PREP FOOTBALL ELLIOTTSBURG, Pa. - Zach Smith was a one-man for West Perry on Friday night in the Mustangs' 35-7 victory over visiting Waynesboro. Smith ran for 91 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 123 yards and another score. West Perry (6-2) led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, 21-0 at halftime and 35-0 at the end of the third. Johnnie Adgers ran for 86 yards on 18 carries for Waynesboro (2-6). He scored the Indians' lone touchdown with 4:45 left in the game on a 19-yard run. Friday, October 12, 2012 PREP FOOTBALL BRUNSWICK, Md. - Brunswick's defense got its first shutout of the season and its offense ran more than 100 plays as the Railroaders beat Williamsport 40-0 on Friday. Brunswick's defense held Williamsport to 83 total yards. David Moore had two interceptions, and Shane Gerstner also picked off a pass. The Railroaders (4-3, 2-1 MVAL Antietam) also recovered two onside kicks, putting the ball back into the hands of an offense that ran 107 plays.

Patricia Green Divilbiss, 72, of Stephens City, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert K. Binyard officiating. Burial will be in Woodrow Union Cemetery in Paw Paw, W.Va.

The National Park Service is soliciting public comments on a proposed extension of the Western Maryland Rail Trail to Paw Paw, W.Va. The agency said Wednesday it will hold public meetings Wednesday in Hancock and Thursday in Paw Paw on an environmental assessment of the project. The park service said its preferred alternative would involve 8.1 miles of paved trail construction in two segments. Trail users wishing to hike or bike to Paw Paw from the current terminus in Pearre would have to use the Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park towpath as a connector between the two proposed new sections.

Brandon Allen had two hits and Brandon Greene and Brandon Toloso had two RBIs for the Wildcats (2-2, 2-1), who scored nine runs in the second. Dylan Stouffer hit a solo blast in the fifth and a two-run shot in the seventh, Logan Appel had two hits, including a home run in the first, and Brent Mentzer and Tyler Walling had two hits each for the Blazers (1-2, 0-2)

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. - Chad Thompson of Cascade was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Robert Morris University. Thompson is at Robert Morris University on a bowling scholarship. His team recently competed in a tournament in Indiana with about 40 other teams from around the country. Thompson is majoring in accounting/business. Thompson is a 2009 graduate of Smithsburg High School, and is a junior transfer from Shippensburg (Pa.) University. He is the son of Richard and Tina Thompson.
