By Anne Chovey Special to The Herald-Mail BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. --Tucked up on the hill overlooking downtown Berkeley Springs is the upscale restaurant, Lot 12 Public House. Billed as "A Dining Destination," Lot 12 is located in an old turn of the century home. Diners can eat in what must have been the parlor or sitting room, or on the wrap-around porch or at the bar, tucked in the back. My companion, Pap Ricka, and I arrived on a warm summer night and decided to opt for comfort inside rather than a view outside.

By ANNE CHOVEY Special to The Herald-Mail FREDERICK -- It has been awhile since Pap Ricka and I ventured outside of Washington County in search of a good dinner. So recently we were joined by some friends and headed into downtown Frederick, Md., to see what was there. We spotted several interesting places but settled on Acacia Fusion Bistro as our choice. Acacia is located on North Market Street and is a short walk from the Church Street parking garage across the street.

WILLAMSPORT-- Marco's NY Pizza and Restaurant is tucked in the Milestone Plaza in Williamsport, where the old Deli-licious used to be. Pap Ricka and I recently wandered in on a weeknight to check it out. The layout of the restaurant is much the same as it was, with a counter and cash register in the room on the right and the dining room in the room on the left. But what you notice when you walk in is the incredible smell of Italian food. We immediately started salivating. Orders are placed at the counter and then patrons seat themselves.

By Anne Chovey Vesta Pizzeria & Family Restaurant on Main Street in Boonsboro has an interesting history. Vesta is the Roman goddess of fire and the owners of Vesta chose it specifically for its symbolism. Asaro's Pizza & Sub Shop was destroyed by fire in 2007. The owners decided to reopen in a new location just down the street and christened the pizza shop with a new name, Vesta, to reflect its history. My dining companion, Pap Ricka, and I decided to visit one evening recently.

By ANNE CHOVEY Special to The Herald-Mail It is an interesting concept: Take all sorts of tasty ingredients and instead of putting them on boring bread, use a bagel. That is the thought behind Bagel-Liscious, the little deli at the end of Wilson Boulevard. I stopped in recently to pick up an order to share with my friends, Pap Ricka and Mack Aroni. The choices are endless, with just about any combination of turkey, roast beef, chicken, ham and cheese with select condiments.

By Anne Chovey Special to The Herald-Mail What makes a sandwich shop stand out from the ordinary or average place? Well, the food has got to be a bit more adventurous, the location should be convenient, and the service swift and pleasant. The Plum located on Rochester Place in downtown Hagerstown, fills the bill on all accounts. My dining companion, Pap Ricka and I decided to go to the Plum for lunch one day recently. The building, which houses the restaurant, is tucked away off the alley behind the Barbara Ingram School and The Maryland Theatre.

By ANNE CHOVEY - Special to The Herald-Mail Nick's sits in the bend of the road on Pennsylvania Avenue near Hagerstown Regional Airport, north of Hagerstown. It is a modest-looking building with ample parking around it. Inside, the décor is tastefully upscale. The restaurant is divided into a number of rooms: two fairly large dining rooms, a greenhouse area, a bar and numerous smaller private dining areas. My dining companion, Pap Ricka, and I were greeted immediately upon entering and given our choice of seating.

By Anne Chovey The outside of Georgia Boy Cafe at Park Circle is painted a distinctive gray-green with a peach stripe. The restaurant building had once housed the Grille at Park Circle at its Virginia Avenue location and I was curious to see if the interior of the restaurant had changed much. Inside, the place looked much the same. Fresh paint and lots of chickens and roosters updated the décor. We were immediately greeted upon entering the foyer and given our choice of eating in the dining room or the lounge.
