Nick Miller certainly made the most of his one wrestling season at Williamsport. The senior went 37-1, won the 106-pound title at the Maryland Class 2A-1A state tournament and now has the honor of being The Herald-Mail's 2012-13 Washington County Wrestler of the Year. “I was happy with the season, definitely,” he said. Miller, who finished his high school career with a 140-16 record, previously wrestled for Hedgesville and was a West Virginia Class AAA state runner-up as a sophomore.

Zach Shoemaker of Williamsport High School won the Maryland Class 2A-1A 160-pound title Saturday night at the Maryland State Wrestling Tournament. Shoemaker defeated Taran Carr of Owings Mills 7-1 in the championship match to become Washington County's all-time winningest wrestler.

NOV. 6, 1943-JAN. 29, 2011 Jack Randolph “Randy” Rutherford, 67, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at his home in Hagerstown. Born Nov. 6, 1943, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Dorothy Mae (McCoy) Rutherford of Hagerstown and the late John Harlan Rutherford, who died in December of 1966. Randy graduated in 1961 from South Hagerstown High School. In 1962, he entered the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1966.

JAN. 6, 1916-DEC. 20, 2009 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Margaret Elizabeth Bowman, 93, of Owings Mills, Md., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Seasons Hospice in Randallstown. Born Jan. 6, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Williams Wiles and Abigail Donohue Wiles. She was the wife of Joseph Dewitt Bowman, her husband of 69 years, whom she married Sept. 22, 1940. She was a cook for the Baltimore County School System at Franklin High School. She was a member of Reisterstown Seventh-day Adventist Church.

SEPT. 23, 1929-DEC. 12, 2009 PIKESVILLE, Md. - Lawrence Aldine Rohrback Sr., 80, of Pikesville, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Born Sept. 23, 1929, in Knoxville, Md., he was the son of the late Jesse P. and Daisy M. Cooper Rohrback. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae V. Rohrback, on March 22, 1973; and his second wife, Vanda Elizabeth Rohrback. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired as a truck driver.

Born Sept. 15, 1909, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. Doub Sr. and M. Delva Bowers Doub. Harriet was a 1927 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1928 graduate of Columbia Business College (Hagerstown). She was employed by the Washington County treasurer's office for 25 years. Harriet was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

PREP FOOTBALL WASHINGTON, Va. -- Hancock used a stellar defensive effort, including a fourth-quarter goal-line stand, to defeat Rappahannock County 20-12 on Friday night to snap a 14-game losing streak. Nick Harvey had 21 tackles, while Dakota Clark had two sacks and two tackles for losses for the Panthers (1-0), who forced five fumbles. Down eight with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Rappahannock County (0-2) had four chances to score from Hancock's 3-yard line, but was denied by the Panthers' defense.
