shappell@herald-mail.com Washington County Sheriff's deputies were still trying Tuesday to locate the driver of a truck involved in a Monday night crash that sent four motorists to Washington County Hospital. Deputies said the man fled as witnesses tried to aid an injured passenger in his truck. Deputy D.L. Broussard said the department was pursing leads to locate the driver of a Chevrolet truck that crashed into an Oldsmobile being operated by 19-year-old city resident Corey Mongan on Eastern Boulevard, near Antietam Drive during Monday's rain storm.

Ion Design FREDERICK, Md. - Ion Design, a graphic design firm in Frederick, designed the new poster for the 2002 President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The poster is geared toward youths from first grade to high school. Ion Design also is making a donation to Waverly Elementary School's fitness program. FREDERICK, Md. A Frederick woman whose car careened off U.S. 40 west of Keyne Road Sunday at 10:10 p.m. died as a result of injuries, according to Maryland State Police. Susan Kay Smith, 36, of 210 Broadway Ave., Frederick, was traveling east in her 1984 Oldsmobile Firenza when she crossed into the westbound lane, went off the road and into the woods. She struck a tree head-on, police said. Smith was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The condition of a Boonsboro resident injured in an apparent drag-racing incident was upgraded Sunday, approximately two days after a crash left him in critical condition. Meanwhile, a Washington County Sheriff's deputy said the boy, whom he declined to identify, would not likely face criminal charges in connection with Friday's incident along National Pike. A Washington County Hospital spokeswoman said the 16-year-old Boonsboro-area resident's condition was upgraded to serious at the hospital Sunday.

Curved Dash?" cont. from news page The first line of that old song really ends with the word "Oldsmobile," a tribute to the earliest Oldsmobiles that were built around the turn of the 20th century. Judging by old photos, those first cars were little more than carriages without horses. The early Olds sported a tiller instead of a steering wheel. The car made a comeback of sorts in Waynesboro In the 1950s when local resident William Barnhart opened a small assembly plant on Grant Street he called the Antique Auto Co. He built replicas of the 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile.

The Hub City Cruisers held its second annual Car and Truck Show recently. The event was held in conjunction with Volvo Powertrain (Mack Trucks) annual company picnic. Hub City Cruisers raised $750 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a result of the car show. The club is partnered with the JDRF this year and will present the foundation with a check on Oct. 4, according to Dave Wallech, president of Hub City Cruisers. NEW MARKET, Md. -- One person was flown to a Baltimore hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident on Md. 144 in Frederick County, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Department. At about 7:58 a.m., a westbound 1998 Oldsmobile van driven by Connie L. Thompson, 48, of Mt. Airy, Md., crossed the center line, causing an eastbound 2005 Dodge truck driven by Sharron K. Rooney, 59, of Mt. Airy to take evasive action to avoid a collision, police said.

Bond was raised Tuesday from $15,000 to $25,000 on a city man charged with abducting a 2-year-old child and assaulting a woman. Washington County District Judge Noel Spence raised the bond for Harry William Deneen III, 19, of 139 Randolph Ave., at a bond review hearing. Deneen is charged with abducting a child under the age of 12, second-degree assault and driving a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. Shannon Marie Smith, 18, told deputies that a man assaulted her at a Youngstoun Drive home at about 10 a.m. Monday and then left with the child in her 1987 Oldsmobile.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Children can be fingerprinted and adults can have their child safety seats inspected by professionals Saturday at a family safety awareness event at Jennings Chevrolet, Cadillac, Oldsmobile in Chambersburg. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers from the South-Central Pennsylvania Highway Safety Committee will inspect child sheets and show people how to install them in their own car. The Chambersburg Fire Department will be on hand to fingerprint and photograph children for identification and will pass out educational safety literature.

11/14/96 FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - A Chambersburg area man died and his wife was in guarded condition Wednesday night after a car accident on U.S. 30, Pennsylvania State Police said. Marlin D. Lehman, 72, of 3301 Anthony Highway, drove his 1988 Oldsmobile from New Road onto U.S. 30 into the path of a pickup truck about 5:20 p.m., police said. His wife, Catherine E. Lehman, 71, was flown to York (Pa.) Hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said.
