Health department names employee of the month Virginia Emerson has been named the Washington County Health Department's Employee of the Month for December. Emerson is a registered nurse who has been employed at the health department since 1977. She developed the Community Home Care Program, which provides personal care to homebound Department of Social Services clients. Subsequent to that, she participated in the Adult Evaluation and Review Services program, assessing the needs of elderly citizens with the intent of maximizing their independence and then transferred to the Home Health program, providing direct health care to clients in residential settings.

Ludwick Properties CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A new facility offering medical services to the Chambersburg community is scheduled to open in spring 2007. The new building, owned and operated by Ludwick Properties LLC, will be at 825 Fifth Ave. in the medical/professional complex off Walker Road. It will house Ludwick Eye Center and a new Ambulatory Surgery Center, Ludwick Laser and Surgery Center LLC., said David J. Ludwick, M.D. Dr. Stephen Facchina is coming on board in September and will work in both the Chambersburg and Hagersstown offices.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - This year's Roundhouse Rail Days includes live music and a tribute to Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., for his efforts in securing funding to help restore the roundhouse, says Jennifer Baker, the roundhouse's office manager. The program honoring the senator starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and includes the unveiling of plaques - one for Byrd and one designating the roundhouse as a National Historic Landmark. Live music includes The Mahoney Brothers at noon and 3:30 p.m. Saturday and The Fabulous Hubcaps at noon and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Mills-Cunningham Ashley Marie Cunningham and Brent Aaron Mills were married Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown. The bride is the daughter of Sandy and Samantha Cunningham of Pinesburg. The bridegroom is the son of Charles and Cathy Mills of Clear Spring. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Hagerstown Community College. She is employed as an orthodontist assistant with Wilson Orthodontics in Hagerstown.

HAGERSTOWN A Washington County Circuit judge ruled Tuesday that a woman who is serving a three-year prison sentence for embezzling more than $200,000 from her former employer continue serving that term unless she makes significant restitution. Circuit Judge W. Kennedy Boone III said Tuesday that if Krista Sue Hudson sells her Williamsport home or takes out a home equity loan to pay a significant portion of the nearly $170,000 owed to Robinwood Orthopaedic Specialists, he might consider reducing her sentence.

The Herald-Mail Co. Gene Nixon has been hired by The Herald-Mail Co. as a home delivery zone manager in the Circulation Department. A former supervisor with Dobson Communications, Nixon also has worked for Valley Credit Service, Prudential Home Mortgage and Standard Federal Savings Bank. Also in Circulation, Kathie Heavner has moved to a part-time field service representative position. In her new capacity, Heavner will assist the company's zone managers with a number of their daily duties.

FAIRFIELD, PA. chambersburg@herald-mail.com A Fairfield woman who died Sunday after scuba diving off the coast of South Carolina was an avid and experienced diver who was dedicated to her family and career, her husband said Wednesday. Beth Ann Palmer Moore, 40, of 15 Polly Trail, collapsed Sunday afternoon after a dive about 38 miles off the coast, according to The Associated Press. Tamara Willard, a deputy corner in Horry County, S.C., told The Associated Press that Moore collapsed after the dive and was airlifted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she was pronounced dead.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The race for the Republican nomination for Chambersburg mayor in the May 17 primary will pit against one another two longtime veterans of the borough government - incumbent Mayor Tom Newcomer and Ward 4 Councilman John A. Redding. Newcomer, 60, of 129 Highfield Lane South, was elected mayor in 2001. He previously served as a Ward 2 councilman from 1991-2001, and prior to that was a Ward 3 councilman from 1973-76. Redding, 74, of 204 Glen St., has served as a Ward 4 councilman for 12 years and has been chairman of the council's Finance Committee for four years.

Breast Cancer Awareness-Cumberland Valley Inc. (BCA-CV) recently received checks totaling $11,480 from two local organizations. Office Suppliers Inc. recently presented a check for $7,600 to BCA-CV with money raised through Office Suppliers Inc.'s "Think Pink" Steelcase Think Chair sale. Treva Ghattas, furniture sales manager for Officer Suppliers, said a portion of the sale from each Think Chair sold went to help BCA-CV to provide support for those dealing with breast cancer.

charlestown@herald-mail.com CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jefferson County will have a new county clerk next year, and it is up to county voters to decide whether it will be Democrat Scott Coyle or Republican Jennifer Maghan. Voters will choose a new county clerk on Nov. 2 because longtime County Clerk John Ott is retiring. The county clerk's salary is $46,200 and the term is six years. Scott Coyle Coyle said the county clerk's position is an important job, overseeing the county's elections and acting as the keeper of records, including property deeds and wills.
