Raymond T. “Berky” Bercaw, 93, a resident of Quincy (Pa.) Village, and formerly of 13243 Grandview Drive, Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Paul B. Gunder, 83, a resident of the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa., and formerly of 8301 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Blue Rock United Brethren Church, Waynesboro. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

John Sylvester Risinger, 93, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Berkeley Springs Rehab and Nursing Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, W.Va. The service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Donald Dick officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. Clara S. (Sanders) Conrad, 92, a resident of Quincy Village, and formerly of 614 W. Third St. in Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 1:20 a.m. at the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the past three months and had been a dialysis patient for more than 11 years.   Born June 9, 1919, in Lemoyne, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George W. Sanders Sr. and Mabel Irene (Shoop) Sanders.   Mrs. Conrad attended schools in the Harrisburg, Pa., area.

Mr. Robert A. Fahnestock Jr., 83, a resident of St. Catherine’s Nursing Center, Emmitsburg, Md., and formerly of 5849 Rowland Hill, Cascade, Md., passed away at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the nursing home. Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert A. Fahnestock Sr. and Helen E. (Gipe) Fahnestock.   Mr. Fahnestock was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, with the class of 1947. He and his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Marie V. (Grams)

Kathryn C. Eshleman, 90, a resident of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. A memorial service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Marion Mennonite Church, Chambersburg. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery.

Claude Stanley Choules, the last known combat veteran of World War I, died Thursday at a nursing home in the Western Australia city of Perth, his family said. He was 110. "We all loved him," his 84-year-old daughter Daphne Edinger told The Associated Press. "It's going to be sad to think of him not being here any longer, but that's the way things go. " Beloved for his wry sense of humor and humble nature, the British-born Choules — nicknamed "Chuckles" by his comrades in the Australian Navy — never liked to fuss over his achievements, which included a 41-year military career and the publication of his first book at the age of 108. He usually told the curious that the secret to a long life was simply to "keep breathing.

Margaret E. Rotz, 76, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa.,and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, April 4, 2011, in the nursing home. There will be no viewing. A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church of Greencastle. Burial will be held later in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. Arrangements are by the Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
