Nursing Home

Donald A. Smith, 76, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to service at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa. A celebration of life will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Thomas W. "Tom" Harper, 86, of Providence Place, Chambersburg, Pa. and formerly of 11059 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, Pa., diedWednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at the nursing home. There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Members of the Western Maryland Homeschool Association and of the Western Maryland Homeschool H.E.A.R.T.S group recently sang Christmas carols at Somerford Place on Sharpsburg Pike. Members attending were from Smithsburg, Sharpsburg, Hagerstown, Fairplay and Pennsylvania. At the conclusion of the songs, a resident of the nursing home gave each child a candy cane. The children and their families also socialized with residents while there.

Eileen May Gelsinger Naugle, 63, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Tuesday at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa. The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, near Mercersburg, Pa.

Theodore R. "Ted" Hopewell Sr., 99, of Milford Manor, Pikesville, Md., and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, July 6, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Waynesboro. The service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Glenn H. Stahl, 89, a resident of The Village Of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa.

Doreatha A. Provard Verdier, 86, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa., died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, Pa.

Anna G. Hoffman Oberholzer, 93, a resident of Quincy (Pa.) Retirement Village, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa., Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Janet E. (Barnett) Kauffman, 91, of Quincy Village in Quincy, Pa., and formerly of 7170 Anthony Highway in Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, June 26, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, Pa. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Alice V. Ambrose Munson, 101, of Green Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gettysburg, Pa., and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
