Hazel B. Sanda, 98, a resident of Quincy (Pa.) Home, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa. The service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Eileen May Gelsinger Naugle, 63, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Tuesday at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa. The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, near Mercersburg, Pa.

Raymond E. Smith, 92, a resident of Quincy Village, Quincy, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Pa., Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. A service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

A nearly 240-year-old building next to Hagerstown Speedway east of Clear Spring is housing a new bar and restaurant that is scheduled to open Saturday. A luncheon and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held at Thunder Road Bar and Grille, at 15124 National Pike on Tuesday. The Washington County Commissioners and other county officials attended. The restaurant is in a building that opened in 1778 as a hotel for people traveling by horseback and has since served as a hospital, nursing home, and various other restaurants, said Jim Mills, director of marketing and events for the restaurant.

Help available to families By ANDREA BROWN-HURLEY / Staff Writer Murder-suicide isn't the answer to the tragic effects of Alzheimer's disease, according to the head of the local Alzheimer's Association. Fred Stouffer, 76, in July asphyxiated himself and his wife, Aileen, 75, who suffered from advanced Alzheimer's disease. Police ruled the Hagerstown couple's deaths a murder-suicide. "Unfortunately, it does happen. But it tends to be the exception," said Barbara Pilgram, executive director of the Alzheimer's Association of Western Maryland.

Food Lion not leaving By SCOTT BUTKI / Staff Writer Rumors that the Food Lion grocery store will pull out of Kenley Village shopping center are false, according to the store manager and a representative of the company that manages the property. Tony Brown, president of the Pelican Group, the Mobile, Ala.- based company that manages the property, said Monday that Food Lion has a 20-year lease at the shopping center, at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Frederick Street.

Born Dec. 8, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Lucille G. (Johnson) Smith. Goldie is survived by her son, Ronald “Tater” Metz and wife, Dawn; two daughters, Linda Wolfensberger and Rose Harshman, all of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, John Wolfensberger and wife, Liz, Victoria Metz, Cari Frazier and husband, Josh, and Jonathan Stambaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to service at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa. A celebration of life will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
