Groupon Grassroots selected Vested Interest in K-9s Inc. as its charity partner for the event, which raised more than $155,000 in eight days, according to the news release. Through an online $10 donation, people could purchase a groupon, which is a tax-deductible donation, through a secure website, according to the news release. All funds were allocated to purchase ballistic vests for police department K-9s. Vested Interest in K-9s, a nonprofit organization, will be able to provide bulletproof vests to more than 150 K-9s across the nation as a result of the funds raised, according to the release.

A 48-year-old Chambersburg man who was struck by a car while riding a bicycle in Southampton Township Friday night has died, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release Sunday. Jeffrey I. Coons was riding a bike south on Airport Road at 11:02 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a 2004 Toyota Sequoia being driven by Mark E. Nealy, 42, of Shippensburg, according to the release. Coons, who was thrown over the hood of the vehicle, was flown to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday, the release said.

A man charged in the shooting last month of a Martinsburg resident was picked up Tuesday in Delaware, police said. Desmond Lamont Davis, 23, no fixed address, was arrested Tuesday at 2 p.m. by police in New Castle, Del., according to a news release from the Martinsburg Police Department. Davis, aka Desi and Desert Eagle, is charged in warrants with malicious wonding and wanton endandagerment in the June 16 shooting of Zebudia Pitters in the 300 block of Chestnut Street in Martinsburg, police said.

A resident of Main Street in Mercersburg has announced his candidacy to become the town's next mayor. Jeremy Jones, a Republican, is the chief operating officer for Flannery's Restaurant Group. In this capacity, he serves as general manager and executive chef for the local business. Jones also owns Jc Jones and Company, which is a private management and culinary consultation business, according to a news release. Jones serves as a volunteer coordinator and speaker for JIL Ministries International of Biglerville, Pa. He has been appointed by the Mercersburg Borough Council and the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce's board of directors to serve on the “police/safety committee” of the borough.

A Hagerstown man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a weekend stabbing of a teenager on North Jonathan Street, according to a news release from the Hagerstown Police Department. Jenerette Bartholomew Dixon, 38, of 340 Jonathan St., was charged with attempted murder, assault and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, and reckless endangerment, the news release states. Dixon was being held without bond Sunday at the Washington County Detention Center.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said it was investigating a fire that caused $3,000 in damages to a car Saturday night in the 20100 block of Hogmaw Road near Keedysville. The fire started in the interior passenger compartment of a 1996 Chevrolet Beretta that was parked in the 20100 block of Hogmaw Road, according to a Fire Marshal's Office news release. The fire was reported by the owner at 10:50 p.m. Saturday. It took 14 firefighters about 10 minutes to get it under control, the release says.

Hagerstown Police have located a 17-year-old girl who was last seen at noon Saturday leaving her residence at 111 King St. Kayla Marie Ross told her mother that she was going to stay the night with a friend on Kuhn Avenue but never arrived there, according to a Hagerstown Police Department news release. Officers believe she might have stayed with a friend in the 17400 block of Scarlet Oak Drive.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking for two teenage sisters who were last seen at their cousin's house at 414 McDowell Ave., in Hagerstown at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The sheriff's office was called to 14109 Shelby Circle in Hagerstown because of the missing sisters, identified as Shauntika Unique Chandler, 17, and Tyasia Neekolor Chandler, 15, according to a news release. Anyone with information about the girls can contact the sheriff's office 240-313-2172.

The West Virginia State Police on Saturday announced the arrest of seven people at a Jefferson County home where authorities seized more than $16,000 in cash and about 6.25 pounds of marijuana Friday evening. In addition to the marijuana, the search warrant issued for the residence at 381 Dalgo Lane near Kearneysville, W.Va., also netted 40 Ecstasy pills, heroin, mushrooms, one shotgun and two pistols, police said in a news release. The individuals arrested were not named, but police said they were charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy, according to the release.
