Swindell Sr. travels 100 miles from his home in the small town of Needmore to the streets of Washington, D.C. His destination is usually a park near the White House where dozens of homeless men and women are waiting for Swindell, his wife and members of his ministry to feed them and talk about Jesus.

BELISLE Staff Writer, Waynesboro NEEDMORE, Pa. - Stand in the intersection of Pa. 655 and U.S. 522, and you won't be able to count more than two or three houses in any direction before the landscape returns to farmland. You're smack in the middle of downtown Needmore, Pa., literally a wide spot in the road with a few houses on the side. It's where Chris Hill, 24, a rising artist and Needmore native, wants to make his mark on the world. Hill's work is seen every week by readers of the Fulton News, the county's weekly newspaper.

NEEDMORE, PA. -- A 65-year-old Needmore woman died Wednesday after her vehicle was struck head-on on U.S. 522 as she turned into a Needmore ice cream shop, Pennsylvania State Police said. Alice Williams was airlifted to Altoona (Pa.) Hospital along with her 11-year-old passenger, but she died before reaching the hospital, Trooper Ryan Cohen said. Williams was driving north on U.S. 522 in a Chevrolet Cavalier when she attempted to make a left turn into the Gordon's Ice Cream parking lot, just south of Pa. 655, at about 6:50 p.m., Cohen said.

Adrian H. Spade, 93, of Needmore, Pa., died Monday, May 14, 2012, at her home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Needmore.

Velma M. Leese, 80, of Timber Ridge Road, Needmore, Pa., died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at home. There will be a visitation Saturday at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa., from 2 to 8 p.m. The service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore. 

Glenn "Randy" Mellott, 66, of Needmore, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. The service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore.

Melvin E. "Mickey" Mellott, 83, of Needmore, Pa., died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. The service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore.

MARCH 18, 1915-MAY 10, 2009 McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Beatrice M. Morton, 94, of the Fulton County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit and formerly of 5246 Pleasant Ridge Road, Needmore, Pa., died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa. Beatrice was born in Needmore on March 18, 1915, the daughter of the late Oliver H. and Sarah "Myrtle" (Mellott) Daniels. She was the widow of Harold M. Morton, whom she married July 22, 1933. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1989.

Walter F. "Fred" Wakefield, 85, of Needmore, Pa., died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. The service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore.

Vivian Laverne Deneen, 82, formerly of Needmore, Pa., died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Neiswanger Management Services in Hagerstown, Md. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren. Needmore. The service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at the church.  Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Reva V. Butts, 88, of Inwood, W.Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Revs. Mark McDonald and Jeff Phillis officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Needmore.

Sandra Jane Leedy, 60, of Needmore, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Manor Care Nursing in Chambersburg, Pa. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Needmore (Pa.) Full Gospel Church. The service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

Wayne A. Younker, 75, of Needmore, Pa., died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at his home. Born Aug. 23, 1936 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Edgar and Bessie Younker Shives. He was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Weslyan Chapel in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Alice I. Mills Younker, whom he married March 5, 1954 in Hagerstown, Md.; one son, Wayne Younker Jr. of Needmore; four daughters, Teresa Whittaker of Clear Spring, Md., Bonnie Unger of Hancock, Sandy Wills of Needmore and Michelle Gunnell of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one brother, Marshall Younker; three sisters, Phyllis Jenson, Virginia Reiff and Laverne Barney; grandchildren, April Hiller, Lance Younker, Desirae Ulsh, Chelsea Unger, Allison Wills and Garett Unger; and great-grandchildren, Lane Younker, Jacob Younker and Lydia, Jillian and Mia Hiller.

The service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor David Davis officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Needmore.

Parker Hann, 82, of Harrisonville, Pa., passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at his residence. Parker was born in Harrisonville on June 11, 1929, the son of the late Reuben C. and Della (Schetrompf) Hann. He was the husband of Alice H. (Helsel) Hann, whom he married May 29, 1950. Mr. Hann served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Brownson during the Korean War, was a member of the Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, Pa., VFW Post 655 of McConnellsburg, Pa., the Teamsters Union in Harrisburg, Pa., and also was a 32nd degree Mason.
