Former Major League pitcher Tommy John, who was in Hagerstown Saturday to speak at the Hagerstown Area Church Softball League's annual sports dinner, pitched two innings for Tri-State Fellowship in its game against Church of the Nazarene at Fairgrounds Park. Hub City Softball Burhans Station 20, Century 21 10: Dewey Whitmore and Terry Maloy had four hits, while Matt Jenkins and Bink Eichelberger each added three for Burhans. Casey Hutzell, Heath Crone, Donnie Gipe and Steve Alton each homered, Alton's was a grand slam for Burhans. Shooters 24, JMS 14: Brent Taylor and Kenny Kirby each had four hits, Rick Ricker, Jeff Foltz and Pork Wallech each had three hits, and Jeremy Keckler and Rick Schrieder homered for Shooters.

Eugene C. Klevgard, 63, of McConnellsburg, Pa., died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville, Pa. The service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Howard L. Guy H. Brechbill Jr., age 65, of Portage, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, in Valparaiso, Ind. He was born Nov. 3, 1946, in Waynesboro, Pa., to Guy and Elsie (Brenneman) Brechbill. He worked for Schwan's Home Services for 19 years. Guy was married to Diana Fasel, who survives, of Portage. Guy is also survived by his son, Michael (Erica) Brechbill of Lake Station, Ind.; daughter, Michele Raub of Hanna, Ind.; grandchildren, Emily, Haley and Katie; children, Richard Hulse of Hobart, Ind., and Christine Godby of LaPorte, Ind.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, James (Zina)

A surprise 50th anniversary celebration was held for Susan and Dick Lohman on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene with family and friends in attendance. The Lohmans were married on Dec. 29, 1962, at Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown by the Rev. Arthur Grove. The celebration lunch was hosted by their family, Brenda Lohman, Rich Lohman and his wife, Debbie, and grandchildren, Randy and Bethany. The Lohmans also celebrated their anniversary with a vacation in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with the entire family.

North wrestling team will hold barbecue The North Hagerstown High School wrestling team will hold its annual chicken barbecue on Saturday at the school. Meals will be prepared at North High. A dinner will include one half-chicken, baked beans and coleslaw for $7. Chicken only is available for $6. A limited number of dinners will be available Saturday after 10 a.m. The money raised will go into a fund to help with costs associated with wrestling camp. Hagerstown church to host blood drive A blood drive will be Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene at 141 N. Edgewood Drive in Hagerstown.

Zella Pearl (Heasty) Weaver, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Williamsport Nursing Home. Born July 27, 1925, in Lake Township, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Robert Francis and Vivian Pearl (Bostwick) Heasty. Zella was a 1943 graduate of Elkton High School in Elkton, Mich. She graduated in 1946 from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing in Flint, Mich. She worked as a charge nurse at Washington County Hospital for 15 years before going to Ravenwood Lutheran Village in 1980.

Shirley Margarete Davis, 89, of 7 E. Washington St., Apt. 903, Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at her home. Born Dec. 27, 1923, in Norfolk, Va., she was the daughter of the late Wilma White-Tolson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adelbert Davis, in 1992. She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Williams of Hagerstown; two sisters, Arlene Christensen of Purcellville, Va. and Alice Embrey of Winchester, Va.; two granddaughters, Stacy Smith and Jennifer Phillips; three grandsons, Greg King, Ryan Williams and Sean Williams; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Marie E. Stewart, 63, of Hancock died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md. Born March 13, 1949, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl E. Sr. and Thelma Geraldine Clingerman Wertman, and wife of Talmadge Oakley "Sarge" Stewart, whom she married April 5, 1970, at Hancock Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of Hancock Church of the Nazarene, a 1967 graduate of Hancock High School and a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion Auxiliary.

Alma M. Miller, 89 SEPT. 7, 1919-MARCH 27, 2009 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Alma May Miller, 89, of Shepherdstown, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Canterbury Nursing Home in Shepherdstown. Born Sept. 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Frances and Jacob W. McDaniel. She attended Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School. She retired from the Martinsburg Paper and Box Factory as a box stripper, after 25 years of service. She was a member of the First Church of God, and in later years attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Martinsburg.

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Greencastle-Antrim's softball team likes making history. Maybe that's because the Blue Devils are getting pretty good at it. Fresh off winning their first-ever PIAA District 3-AAA title last week, the Blue Devils kept rolling with their first-ever state tournament victory, scoring four runs in the fifth inning Monday on the way to a 5-3 triumph over Nazareth Academy at the Heishman Softball Complex. "I just want the girls to not be satisfied," Greencastle coach Jaime Richardson said.
