Ryan Wolf of Myersville, Md., was one of 12 students who presented results of their research during Bryan Colleges' third annual Undergraduate Research Conference April 5. Students who participated in the conference are selected by a faculty committee that reviews a summary of their research and picks the top projects for the formal presentation. Ryan, son of Shawn and Denise Wolf, talked about “The Burden of Faith: Existentialism in Dostoevsky's 'The Brothers Karamazov.'”

Firefighters from Washington and Frederick counties are on the scene of a structure fire in Myersville near the intersection of Black Rock Road and Wolfsville Road, dispatchers said. Rescuers were dispatched at 1:53 p.m. today to the 3300 block of Black Rock Road for a greenhouse fire, a 911 dispatcher from Frederick County said. The greenhouse was not known to be part of a commercial business, dispatchers said. Washington County dispatchers said rescuers from Washington County provided aid on the call.

An accident involving two vehicles on I-70 westbound at Md. 17 near Myersville, Md., shut down both westbound lanes of traffic in the area early Tuesday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police at Frederick. As of 1:40 p.m., the westbound travel lanes had reopened, but one westbound shoulder of the highway was closed, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation website. By 2:40 p.m., both lanes had reopened, and traffic was moving smoothly in the area again, according to the MDOT website.

A Washington County Circuit Court judge Tuesday granted a continuance for a Myersville, Md., man who was shot several times by police last year during an incident at a park-and-ride lot near Boonsboro. James Jacob Jardina, 46, was charged with two counts each of first- and second-degree assault, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, possession of a stolen handgun and other offenses in the June 10, 2012, confrontation with police at the lot on Mapleville Road off Interstate 70. Jardina, wearing gray pants with no belt and a blue button-downed shirt, entered the courtroom Tuesday with the assistance of a walker.

MARCH 7, 1943-MAY 15, 2009 MYERSVILLE, Md. - Kenneth Douglas Smith, 66, of Myersville, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. Born March 7, 1943, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Guy Vernon and Mary Catherine Zimmerman Smith. Kenny was a 1961 graduate of Brunswick High School, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Myersville and a member of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Co. He was a dairy farmer in Middletown Valley most of his life, was an auctioneer throughout the area and most recently was a milk tester for Dairy One. He is survived by one daughter, Karen D. Smith of Myersville, and one brother, C. Vernon Smith and wife, Lucy M., of Middletown.

MARCH 14, 1930-MARCH 19, 2011 MYERSVILLE, Md. — Mr. Jackie L. Forsythe, 81, of Myersville, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown. He was born March 14, 1930, in Williamsport, Md., and was the son of the late John Arthur and Annie Dewey Poffenberger Forsythe. Jack was a graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1948. He was employed for 10 years with Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, and then later with the Maryland State Police, retiring in 1974 as a sergeant.

Paul Alvin Myers, 89, of Hagerstown, and recently a resident of Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, passed from this life on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Born on April 19, 1924, in Myersville, Md., he was the son of the late Alvey Jacob and Betty Mariah (Shank) Myers. When he was younger, Paul worked at a sawmill in Frederick County for five years and was then a bench maker with M.P. Moller in Hagerstown. He went on to work at Bester and Long road construction and the Blue Ridge Bus Line, both in Hagerstown.

Mr. Harold Lee Burgan, 73, of Myersville, Md., passed from this life Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Seasons Hospice in Randallstown, Md. Born Nov. 6, 1939, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Lloyd Everett and Margaret Rebecca Davis Burgan. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by one son, Kevin Burgan, Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Cara and Cole Burgan; one brother, Ronald Burgan, Hagerstown; and two sisters, Victoria Eichelberger and Betty Myers, Hagerstown. He was predeceased by two brothers, Everett Burgan and Robert Burgan; and four sisters, Margaret Koontz, Virginia Martin, Shirley Martz and Linda Crouse.

Mary Frances (Swope) Green, 89, formerly of Myersville, Md., passed from this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Broadmore Assisted Living in Hagerstown. Born on Jan. 2, 1924, in Mount Lena, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy Hubert and Edna (Hovis) Swope. Her husband, Ralph M. Green, preceded her in death in 2004. She was a member of Pleasant Walk United Methodist Church where she had been very active in the women's group and sang with the choir. Mary was the matriarch of her family, and will be deeply missed by all. She will be fondly remembered for her love of word search games.

Donna Mae Horn, 92, of Pleasant Walk Road, Wolfsville, passed away Tuesday, May 14, at Meritus Medical center. Born Jan. 3, 1921, at Wolfsville, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Orpha Wolfe Eccard. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Victor W. Buhrman, in 1978 and her second husband, William Harold Horn, in 1998. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Wolfsville. She is survived by a son, Victor W. (Bill) Buhrman, two daughters, Andrea M. Palmer and Charlotte E. Wisner, all of Myersville; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great- grandchildren.

Donald E. Korrell, 74, of Wolfsville, Md., passed away at his residence Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Born March 22, 1939, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Elmer V. and Charlotte J. Platter Korrell. Don was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Myersville, Md. He was retired from the construction industry. Living in the mountains of Wolfsville, Don enjoyed all of the wildlife surrounding him. Surviving Don is his wife, Darlene J. Korrell; five children, Mike Truax and wife Sandy, Terri Connors and husband Jim, Debbie Cregger and husband Mike, Don Korrell II and wife Bonnie and Darla Korrell and companion Rodney Lewis; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
