One person was killed when a motorcycle and a vehicle collided Saturday at about 8:25 p.m. on Loop Road near Apple Harvest Drive, a Berkeley County Emergency Services supervisor said. West Virginia State Police said further information, including the names of the people involved, was not immediately available.

The Pegasus Ride for Cancer is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Pegasus Radio Control Airplane Club on Old Forge Road in Hagerstown. This is a self-paced organized motorcycle ride. The route is a little more than 60 miles long through the mountains of central Maryland and south central Pennsylvania. When you see Hammerhead, Ox, Hardcore and the rest of the Defenders rumbling through your town, just remember this: They aren't looking to make trouble. Because most of them are police officers and first responders, their day jobs usually involve putting an end to trouble. Seven members and an associate of the Defenders Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club's 56th and newest chapter, the Mason-Dixon Chapter, donned their colors and mounted their Harleys on Saturday for a ride through the county.

The male rider of a motorcycle that collided with a vehicle at Greencastle Pike and Resh Road was taken to Meritus Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, a Washington County 911 spokesman said. Greencastle Pike was closed for an hour following the crash, which was reported at about 4:20 p.m., the dispatcher said. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash.

Santa and his reindeer might make a clatter, but the man in red and his elves created a rumble Sunday morning as they drove into downtown Hagerstown on Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Honda, Triumph and BMW motorcycles to deliver donations to a food and clothing bank. Santa led the procession aboard his sleigh, a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager. Sunday marked the 20th year the local chapter of ABATE of Maryland has brought donations to the ACTS 9 clothing and food bank, which went by the name Adventist Community Services Center when the partnership started, according to Sandy Martin, ACTS 9 executive director.

Basil Harne estimates he's ridden more than 300,000 miles since he started riding motorcycles as a teenager. At age 85, Harne rides his 2002 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic daily, except in rain, snow and ice. “I rode a motorcycle most of my life,” Harne said. While he prefers to ride in temperatures above 20 degrees, Harne has a windproof suit that he wears to block the cold and wind. He and his wife, Lucille,celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Sept. 3, followed by his 85th birthday on Sept.

Bill Kleckner knows the value of family. He's learned the hard way. "I don't know what a real father is. My father was in the penitentiary when I was young. Mom was involved in an affair and married a younger man. So my grandma pretty much raised my siblings and I," he said. "And I wasn't a good father, because I didn't know how to be a good father. " But Kleckner has seen good examples of family, too - in churches, such as Bridge of Life, the congregation in which he's active now. And in the motorcycle gang he used to ride with.

A 30-year-old man who fatally struck a motorcyclist while driving and fled the scene of the crash March 7 was sentenced this week to two years in a state prison. Leon C. Deardorff Jr. was sentenced by Judge Douglas Herman in the Franklin County (Pa.) Court of Common Pleas. He received credit for about five months already served in jail, according to online court records. Deardorff, who is listed in court records as being from Greencastle, Pa., pleaded guilty to charges of homicide by vehicle and driving on a suspended license.

Deryle Bingaman of Hagerstown fashioned a costume of play money dollar bills for Halloween, which he said he had hoped to wear in the Alsatia Mummers Parade in Hagerstown. He said he was unable to participate in the annual march because he could not ride the motorcycle along the route. Bingaman said it took him two weeks to put the costume together.
