On Saturday, Aug. 28, Throttles Bar and Grill, at 236 Cumberland St. in Clear Spring, will hold the third annual Michelle Younker Memorial Ride to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County. The ride is being held by Wanda and Sam Mills of Throttles in honor of their friend, Michelle Younker, who passed away in August 2005. "Michelle never had kids. She had two or three Great Danes all the time and just loved her dogs," Sam Mills said. "We wanted to do something in her honor and we think holding this ride to benefit the shelter is something she would have liked.

An accident involving two vehicles, one of which is a motorcycle, has been reported at the intersection of Harpers Ferry Road and Davidson Road in Sharpsburg, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. Police were responding to the accident at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

Twenty-eight motorcycles from the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia snaked down a winding, pastoral road Sunday afternoon to the newly dedicated Flight 93 National Memorial. It was the annual 242-mile round-trip pilgrimage for a group of bikers who say they want to pay their respects to the tragic flight's passengers and crew members. “I'd encourage everybody to come here at least once,” said Bobby Shirley, who helped lead the ride from Charles Town, W.Va. Debra Lohr of Inwood, W.Va., said she thinks about the final moments for those onboard the aircraft as it rapidly descended and crashed into a meadow.

Diabetes Motorcycle Ride will be Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St., Smithsburg. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Ride begins at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per motorcycle and driver; $10 for any additional passenger. The driver of a motorcycle that wrecked on Interstate 81 between the Salem Avenue and Maugansville Road exits was taken to Meritus Medical Center to be examined, according to Maryland State Police. The driver escaped serious injury in the crash, police said. The crash, which occurred at about 3:10 p.m., happened after a tractor-trailer made an unsafe lane change, a state police spokesman said Wednesday night. There was no contact between the tractor-trailer and the motorcycle, the spokesman said.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania man was flown by helicopter to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pa., after an accident in which the motorcycle he was operating struck a deer, Pennsylvania State Police said. Robert L. Kring, age unavailable, of Sidman, Pa., was traveling east in the 14000 block of Buchanan Trail West in Peters Township shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday when the Harley-Davidson motorcycle hit the deer, police said. Kring was thrown from the motorcycle, police said.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- A Chambersburg, Pa., woman suffered a minor injury Sunday afternoon when her southbound 2007 Kia Sedona struck another southbound car on Interstate 81 about three-tenths of a mile north of exit 5 in Antrim Township, Pennsylvania State Police said. The Sedona, driven by Anita Denny, then went into the median, became airborne and flipped over the northbound lanes in the 12:45 p.m. accident, state police said. When Denny's car crossed the northbound lanes, it caused the driver of a 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle to lay the motorcycle down in a northbound lane to avoid a collision, state police said.

A Williamsport man was killed and his wife was injured Sunday night when their motorcycle collided with a car on Frederick Street in Hagerstown, Police Chief Arthur Smith said Monday. Eric Zombro, 55, of 16714 Sterling Road in Williamsport, was pronounced dead at Meritus Medical Center, the Hagerstown Police Department said. His wife, Melody Zombro, 50, was taken to Meritus Medical Center and later flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to be treated for life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A Martinsburg man was killed Saturday night when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Apple Harvest Drive and Loop Road, according to West Virginia State Police. Curtis Lee Smith, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Michael A. Cole said in a news release. The driver of the car, Horace Thomas, 63, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg for minor injuries, Cole said. A Falling Waters, W.Va., man who was seriously injured in a crash involving multiple motorcycles on Interstate 70 Saturday afternoon in the Indian Springs area was still being treated at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Monday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. Mark D. Stephens was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at the hospital, the spokeswoman said. According to Maryland State Police, a 2008 Harley-Davidson operated by Matthew L. Adams, 42, of Martinsburg, W.Va., slowed down and was struck by Mark D. Stephens' motorcycle from behind.

Two people were killed Saturday in a crash involving multiple motorcycles that shut down eastbound Interstate 70 near Exit 9 in the Indian Springs area for more than four hours, according to Maryland State Police. The accident happened when a motorcycle slowed down and struck two other motorcycles, said Sgt. Phillip Martin of Maryland State Police. Megan R. Daymude, 19, of Inwood, W.Va., who was a passenger on a 2004 Harley-Davidson operated by Mark B. Stephens, 23, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died at the scene of the accident, troopers said.

A Hagerstown man was sentenced Thursday in Berkeley County Circuit Court to at least one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to fleeing the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in April 2011. Steven Edward Thompson, 47, was fined $500 by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge John C. Yoder and ordered to report to Eastern Regional Jail by 5 p.m. Friday to begin serving the sentence, which requires him to spend not less than one year nor more than five years in prison. Yoder denied the defendant's plea for home confinement Thursday after Thompson pleaded guilty to one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence resulting in the April 12, 2011, death of Lorena Beth “Lori” Roberts of Bunker Hill, W.Va.

The male rider of a motorcycle that collided with a vehicle at Greencastle Pike and Resh Road was taken to Meritus Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, a Washington County 911 spokesman said. Greencastle Pike was closed for an hour following the crash, which was reported at about 4:20 p.m., the dispatcher said. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash.

Santa and his reindeer might make a clatter, but the man in red and his elves created a rumble Sunday morning as they drove into downtown Hagerstown on Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Honda, Triumph and BMW motorcycles to deliver donations to a food and clothing bank. Santa led the procession aboard his sleigh, a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager. Sunday marked the 20th year the local chapter of ABATE of Maryland has brought donations to the ACTS 9 clothing and food bank, which went by the name Adventist Community Services Center when the partnership started, according to Sandy Martin, ACTS 9 executive director.
