Thanks to all who supported Boonsboro Green Fest To the editor: We cannot thank the 113 vendors, 46 sponsors, more than 70 volunteers and the 2,200 visitors enough. What a grand day it was Saturday, May 7, at Boonsboro’s Shafer Park for the third annual Boonsboro Green Fest. Volunteers worked nearly 500 hours to pull off this event, with 53 energetic student volunteers accounting for more than half (285) of those hours. We would especially like to recognize the sponsors, for without them this free community event would not be possible.

Rebecca “Becky” Snyder might have had cognitive and physical disabilities, but she lived life to the fullest, choosing a positive attitude and a life filled with human connections. “She was never, ever self-conscious in the wheelchair or when she was having learning problems. If kids stared, she'd smile and wave. She basically was more comfortable in her skin than most of us,” said sister Laura Young of Hagerstown. “She was just able to be herself, confident and poised on top of that,” said nephew Karl Hafer Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Three decades ago, it seemed like a crazy idea. On Sunday, Mother's Day Out at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown was recognized in a celebration marking 30 years for a program the community has embraced. The anniversary celebration was held during the church's 9:30 a.m. worship service. When Lillian Marquart (now Myers), then the Christian education director at the church, proposed starting a weekly program for preschoolers and their parents at her church in 1982, members at Emmanuel United Methodist Church were skeptical.
