Week of Oct. 29, 1956 L.L. Mallonee Jr., local manager for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, has the answer about the use of REgent for the Hagerstown dial telephone exchange. "A nation-wide telephone numbering plan is absolutely essential for dialing long distance calls," he said. "Every number dialed requires a different combination of numerals and letters, so the call goes to one particular telephone out of more than 55,000,000 in this country and Canada.

MAY 8, 1928-JAN. 16, 2009 MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Linn E. "Slim" Bradley, 80, of Fort Loudon Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Manorcare Health Services in Chambersburg, Pa. Born May 8, 1928, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late John and Edna Metcalfe Bradley. He retired from Mercersburg Academy following 17 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 6241 and Loyal Order of Moose 1790 both of Mercersburg, and American Legion Post 561 and the VFW both of McConnellsburg, Pa. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Isabella C. Hartman Bradley; one daughter, Sondi L. McCarty of Mercersburg; one son, Roddy L. Bradley of Mercersburg; one sister, Margaret Helman of Mercersburg; and one nephew.

JUNE 6, 1938-APRIL 4, 2011 Charles H. "Woody" Woodring, 72, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011, at home. He was born June 6, 1938, in Waynesboro, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Anna (Hershey) Woodring. Employed by H.E. Cook Bus Lines, Eberly Bus Lines, Antietam Equipment and Wilbar Truck Equipment, "Woody" was also a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and Loyal Order of Moose 842. He is survived by his wife, Leah Woodring; two stepchildren, John and Tim West; one sister, Anna E. Musser; and four grandchildren.

DEC. 29, 1912-AUG. 3, 2007 GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Lela Maude Shatzer Mackey, 94, who lived with her caregiver and great-granddaughter, Stacey Newcomer, of 13460 Ridge Road, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Manorcare in Chambersburg, Pa. Born Dec. 29, 1912, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late David C. and Effa Detrich Shatzer. She was employed for 39 years by the former Stanley Co., retiring in 1978. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and the Buds of Promise Sunday School Class.

MAY 28, 1960-DEC. 17, 2008 COLUMBUS, Ohio - Susan E. Frick McKibben, 48, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at her home. Born May 28, 1960, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Suellen Emery Frick of Martinsburg and the late Henry L. Frick Sr. She was a 1978 graduate of Martinsburg Senior High School. She was a deputy clerk for the Franklin County Courts in Ohio and formerly with the Berkeley County (W.Va.) Courts. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2252 of Ohio.

DEC. 5, 1911-FEB. 1, 2009 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Ark. - Richard Henry Wolfe Sr., 97, of 1602 E. Main St. and formerly of Potomac Towers, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at the home of his son. Born Dec. 5, 1911, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Vernon Ellsworth Wolfe and Ida Rebecca Cline Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Wolfe, in 2001. He retired from Pangborn Corp. in 1964. He attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose and United Auto Workers Union 842. He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth J. Buckler of Forestville, Md.; two sons, Richard H. Wolfe Jr. of Greencastle, Pa., and Donald D. Wolfe of Mountain View; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Born July 30, 1962, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of Pauline Waugh of Berkeley Springs and the late Glen W. Waugh. He was a 1980 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. He worked as an assembler for Xerxes Corp. in Williamsport. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union Local 171, Loyal Order of Moose 1483 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4433.
