The Dave Alderson Memorial Motorcycle Ride will take place Sunday, July 17. Riders will enjoy a leisurely ride through Western Maryland and Pennsylvania that will end at Washington County Regional Park. The price for registered riders is $25 and the first 100 riders will receive a custom-designed ride patch. Early registration is suggested. Registration on the day of the event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, and the ride starts at 11 a.m. The price on the day of registration is $30 per rider.

Visitors to Valley Mall on Saturday had the opportunity to chat with both alpacas and local politicians as the mall combined a farm weekend with a "meet and greet" with the Washington County Commissioners. While constituents talked budgets and agendas with the commissioners at a booth near the food court, children squealed over a miniature horse, rabbits, alpacas and a 2-day-old calf set up in pens in a vacant store next to Old Navy. The animals were visiting the mall as part of a Kids Ag Venture Weekend organized by the Washington County Farm Bureau.

By LISA GRAYBEAL Staff Writer, Waynesboro LEMASTERS, Pa. - For two weeks, Pauline Harmon got up every two hours during the night to make sure the baby wasn't being born. When the time came, she helped to deliver it and then named it. Now she'll feed it and care for it until she sells it. Harmon, 67, of Harmony Hills farmstead on Harrytown Road, is the proud owner of a 20-inch American miniature horse named Copper Penny, her first "baby" of the spring. Three more are due this month.

Ag Expo volunteers pull all-nighter to do cleanup By ANDREA BROWN-HURLEY / Staff Writer Many Ag Expo volunteers weren't counting sheep during Saturday's pre-dawn hours. After the last capon was sold at the 4-H Market Animal Sale Friday night, event volunteers began cleaning up from the week-long event, said Jeff Semler, a University of Maryland Cooperative Extension agent specializing in 4-H in Washington County. "We'll work all night," he said earlier Friday.

By TERRY TALBERT Staff Writer LEITERSBURG - It was peaches and cream in Leitersburg on Saturday. Well, peaches, anyway. And plenty of them. There was peach ice cream, peach tea, peach hard candy, peach shortcake, peach cobbler, baskets of peaches and pecks of peaches. You get the idea. The 18th annual Leitersburg Peach Festival, sponsored by the town Ruritan Club, continues from noon until 6 p.m. today at the community park. On Saturday, the grounds were packed by 1 p.m. A woman directing visitors to parking places estimated there were twice as many visitors as last year.

trishr@herald-mail.com BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The fifth annual Morgan County Fair at Berkeley Springs High School had a good turnout Saturday, and for many it was their first time coming. Larry Lower, president of the Morgan County Fair Board, was pleased with the attendance. He said since 9 a.m. Saturday, there were 120 people an hour coming in on the "trolley," the shuttle bus that brought people from the parking area at nearby Widmyer Elementary School. "A lot of people are walking in," said Lower.
