Editor's note: Each Sunday, The Herald-Mail publishes "A Life Remembered. " This continuing series takes a look back -- through the eyes of family, friends, co-workers and others -- at a member of the community who died recently. Today's "A Life Remembered" is about Terri Lynn Tucker, who died March 24 at the age of 39. Her obituary was published in The Herald-Mail on March 26. When Kevin Tucker was a senior at Clear Spring High School, he said he was vaguely aware of a little freshman named Terri Shenebeck.

Thanks to the cooperative and nuts to the uncooperative To the editor: I worked traffic control for the JFK 50-miler along Dam 4 Road and Shaffer Road and I would like to thank the local people who live in that area. You are to be commended for your patience and safe driving. Some of you even put your four-way flashers on. That was very nice of you and showed respect for the runners. I know some of you were not happy campers and wish the race would be someplace else.

WILLIAMSPORT -- On Dec. 2, the Ladies of Harley group mailed 50 boxes to military personnel overseas for the Christmas holidays. "We take the names of local soldiers for these care packages," said Roberta Nave, president of the ladies group that is affiliated with Harley-Davidson Chapter 1544 in Williamsport. A typical package contains a Christmas tree, nativity scene, garlands, candy canes, nuts, a canned ham accompanied by a full nonperishable Christmas dinner, cards and personal items not always available in a war zone.

When: Until Dec. 12 Where: Susquehanna Bank locations in Washington County HAGERSTOWN South Hagerstown High School's PTA is collecting Christmas cards that will be sent to military servicemen and servicewomen in Iraq during the holiday season. PTA President Robert Harr said the group wanted to do something for the community and thought of collecting cards.

She likes to chat and get to know the residents of Kenley Square Apartments, a 96-unit complex in Hagerstown. Through her chats, Grunthalt noticed that more than a handful of residents had something in common - namely, a history of military service in Iraq. With Kenley Square Apartments' annual Resident Appreciation Day approaching, Grunthalt came up with an idea to use the event to honor the military personnel who reside there.

WASHINGTON COUNTY - When Gail Smith found out cooling scarves would cost her $14 each, she decided to make them herself. "I looked up directions and tried to make one," said Smith, president of the Washington County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. "It was not hard at all and I realized we could make them for less than 50 cents a scarf. " Smith and about 40 other volunteers from 10 area churches gathered July 7 at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville to help fashion about 675 scarves for U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq.

HAGERSTOWN - The Archbishop of Baltimore celebrated Mass Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hagerstown, telling parishioners that the death and suffering of Christ delivered new life to the world. Archbishop Edwin Frederick O'Brien said that the Mass at St. Ann was part of his effort to visit all 150 parishes in the archdiocese. Other stops on O'Brien's Washington County itinerary included St. Mary's and St. Joseph's in Hagerstown, St. Augustine's in Williamsport and St. James' in Boonsboro.
