A Middletown, Md., man faces a minimum of five years in prison after a Washington County Circuit Court jury convicted him Thursday of using a deadly weapon in the commission of a violent crime in a 2009 road rage incident. Marc Lee Weinstein, 55, also was convicted of two counts each of first- and second-degree assault and one count of reckless endangerment. The weapons charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, Assistant State's Attorney Brett Wilson said.

HAGERSTOWN -- Thursday's girls lacrosse game at Mike Callas Stadium was pretty simple: Middletown scored early and often and kept North Hagerstown from scoring at all in a 22-0 victory. The Knights (6-1) made full use of all its weapons against the Hubs (1-6), as nine different players scored. Hannah Linthicum had five goals, while Brittain Altomare added four goals for Middletown. Sammi Barbeito and Kati Rothenhoefer each had three, Julia Karcewski and Kelly Murphy each had two and Meredith Watts, Taylor Altomare and Erin Wein added a goal each.

MIDDLETOWN, Md. --A Middletown man was killed in a tractor accident Monday in the 8600 block of Hollow Road, according to a press release from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. David C. Burdette, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene after the tractor flipped on top of him in a marshy area on private property, the release said. Burdette was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The accident was under investigation Monday.

Authorities were looking for a man who robbed a Dominos Pizza shop at gunpoint in Middletown, Md., on Wednesday according to Maryland State Police in Frederick County. The robber got away with about $700, state police said in a press release. The man entered the business around 10 p.m. and pointed a small semi-automatic handgun at one of the two employees, police said. A search conducted by state police and the Frederick County Sheriff's Department in the woods behind the pizza shop, which is at 4316 Old National Pike, was unsuccessful.

MIDDLETOWN, Md. -- An 84-year-old Middletown woman suffering from dementia who was reported missing from her home Tuesday night was found Wednesday morning, Maryland State Police said. Florence Lorraine Leatherman, of 8408 Myersville Road, was found at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Leatherman had been reported missing by her son at 10:46 p.m., Maryland State Police said in a news release. It was not known when she left the residence, police said. Friends and family members searched the nearby area before contacting police, the release said.

MIDDLETOWN, Md. -- While two of The Herald-Mail's "Players to Watch" in Washington County were doing the watching from the sidelines for the first half, the Middletown girls basketball team took full advantage, pounding North Hagerstown 72-45 in the season opener for both teams. Iman Scott and Quielanna Gantt were reduced to mere spectators for the first 16 minutes for violation of team rules, according to Hubs coach Cindy Benjamin, as the Knights (1-0) rolled to a 36-18 lead at the half and cruised to the win. "This was a tough first game," said Benjamin.

FEB. 6, 1928-NOV. 26, 2009 FREDERICK, Md. - Robert "Bob" Ray Falkenstein, 81, a former lifelong resident of Myersville, Md., died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick, where he resided with his wife, Betty Coblentz Falkenstein, since 2006. Born Feb. 6, 1928, in Myersville, Bob was the son of the late Walter R. and Dottie M. Doman Falkenstein. He was a 1945 graduate of Middletown (Md.) High School and served in the Army Air Corps for two years.

HAGERSTOWN -- North Hagerstown's boys soccer team lived one life -- for one game -- in the Maryland Class 2A West playoffs. However, the Hubs can still live another life on Saturday in a scheduling oddity. Middletown handled North at both ends of the field and came away with a first-round 3-1 victory on Thursday night at Mike Callas Stadium. That ended any postseason aspirations for the Hubs (10-5), but they can still finish the season on a positive note. On Saturday, North will host Catoctin.

MARCH 18, 1956-OCT. 14, 2009 SMITHSBURG - Larry R. Willard, 53, of John Draper Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at NMS Healthcare Center of Hagerstown, Md., after a four-year battle with cancer. Born March 18, 1956, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Harold Ralph and Ruth Marie (Lewis) Willard. He attended Middletown (Md.) High School. He was employed by Burkittsville Vineyard, Burkittsville, Md. He attended Calvary Baptist Church, Brunswick, Md. He is survived by sisters, Charlotte R. Smith of Chewsville, Md., and Dottie L. Willard of Thurmont, Md.; brothers, Harold G. Willard of Myersville, Md., and Donald A. Willard of Falling Waters, W.Va.
