In more ways than one, the nature of farming in Washington County is changing. One thing that hasn't changed for more than 50 years, though, is the presence of green and yellow John Deere tractors on Maugans Avenue north of Hagerstown. Not for long. The business is moving later this year to a larger and more modern location on Cearfoss Pike, but Landmark Equipment owner Dave Quirple said he remains as committed to serving today's large farmers as he is to serving the growing number of people seeking smaller tractors for "farmettes" and backyards.

Florer-Hardinge Mona Hardinge and T. Hunt Hardinge III of Hagerstown announce the engagement of their son, Thomas Carroll Hardinge, to Melissa Nicole Florer, daughter of Cynthia and Steve Florer of West Des Moines, Iowa. Miss Florer is a 2001 graduate of West Des Moines Valley High School and received a degree in elementary education from University of Northern Iowa in 2005. She is employed with the West Des Moines School District. Mr. Hardinge is a 2001 graduate of North Hagers-town High School and received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Military Institute in 2005.

Nussear-Seymour Kaylor Frances Seymour and Brian Patrick Nussear were married Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Ocean Pines, Md. The bride is the daughter of Frank and Betty Seymour of Loretto, Pa. The bridegroom is the son of Philip and Maxine Nussear of Hagerstown. The bride is a 1997 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, Pa., and received a Bachelor of Science in hotel, restaurant and institutional management from Pennsylvania State University.

COLLEGE SOCCER GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three area athletes contributed to Messiah College's undefeated NCAA Division III champion men's and women's soccer teams this season. Sophomore forward Corrie Jones, a North Hagerstown graduate, started for Messiah (23-0) in its 1-0 victory over the College of New Jersey on Saturday in the women's national final. Jones finished the year with four goals and two assists, including a goal in Messiah's 2-1 overtime victory over the University of Chicago in the semifinals Friday.

McKeever-Shank Jennifer Ann Shank and Scott William McKeever were married Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church in Chambersburg, Pa. The bride is the daughter of Olivia Shank of Clear Spring and the late Robert Shank. The bridegroom is the son of William McKeever of Rockford, Ill., and the late Dianne McKeever. The bride is a graduate of Heritage Academy and Messiah College. She is employed as a registered nurse with Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

MEN'S BASKETBALL SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Chris Rone scored 25 points and Onyie Onunaku had 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead Shenandoah University to an 87-70 victory over Shepherd College on Thursday night. Kenneth Powell added 16 point for the Hornets (4-1), who led 41-40 at halftime. Darren Stackhouse had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rams (2-4), while Jonathan Mann had a career-high 15 points and Esosa Imoisili had 10 points and six rebounds. BOYS BASKETBALL MSD 81, CVCS 65 FREDERICK, Md. - Derrick Williams scored 21 points to lead Maryland School for the Deaf to a victory over Cumberland Valley Christian.

andrewm@herald-mail.com Ben Jordan and Nick Kipe both are on the short list of the best athletes I've covered during my two-plus years working at this newspaper. This past spring, Jordan batted .539 for the Williamsport baseball team and was named All-Area First Team, while Kipe was virtually untouchable in the triple jump for the Waynesboro track team and was named All-Area First Team. Last fall, Jordan and Kipe both were All-Area First Team soccer players. Now, they are teammates for real, although Jordan still says, "It's surreal.
