Four local high students and their families were guests of the Maugansville Ruritan Club at the monthly dinner meeting May 20. Each of the students was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Each of the winners and their parents or guest was introduced and then the student gave the club members a brief description of their future plans and vocational aspirations. From left, Shane Burkett, Grace Academy, who plans to attend Kaplan College; Diana Robinson, Grace Academy, who will also attend Kaplan College; and Wilson Poffenberger, North Hagerstown High School, who plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Roth-Munson Rachel Catherine Munson and Michael Lee Roth were married on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St. James Brethren Church in St. James. The bride is the daughter of Robert and Cathy Munson of Boonsboro. The bridegroom is the son of David and Debra Roth of Williamsport. The bride is a 1999 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Messiah College in 2003 and a Master of Education with a concentration in administration and supervision from Frostburg State University in 2007.

Job training evolved through the millennia into the guilds of Medieval Europe and the internship programs of today, which True said are important to both the intern and the business.

HAGERSTOWN -- An interest that began with a high school sports injury is turning into a career in helping others for a 2004 North Hagerstown High School graduate who began classes this summer for a physical therapy degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Corrie Jones, 22, said she was inspired to become a physical therapist after she tore her ACL, one of the ligaments that connects the bones of the knee joint, running hurdles in track her senior year of high school. Jones, who was training for college soccer, feared the injury would end her soccer aspirations, but her therapist at the Center for Joint Surgery and Sports Medicine helped her through.

PHILADELPHIA - Jonathan Cannon of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He is a pharmaceutical marketing and management student. He is the son of Wayne and Cheryl Cannon. GRANTHAM, Pa. - The following area students graduated from Messiah College on May 17 at the school's 99th commencement: Benjamin Jordan, of Williamsport, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Matthew Henesy, son of Timothy and Marianne Henesy,was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Clear Spring District Historical Association for his interest in history, excellence in academics, his service to the community and leadership skills. Matthew, who graduated from Clear Spring High School in June, plans to attend Messiah College in the fall and major in history.

Alexander-Lewis Donna E. Lewis and Anthony A. Alexander were married on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at First Christian Church in Hagerstown. The bride is the daughter of Paul and Sandy Lewis of Fountainville, Pa. The bridegroom is the son of Allen and Betty Alexander of Smithsburg. The bride is a 1994 graduate of Central Bucks West High School, a 1998 graduate of York College and a 2005 graduate of Shippensburg University with a master of business administration. She is employed with Fil-Tec Inc. in Cavetown.

Cluxton-Keller Marcia Cluxton French of Dallas announces the engagement of her daughter, Fallon Parsons Cluxton, to Dr. William Roger Keller, son of William and Janet Keller of San Antonio, and formerly of Sharpsburg. Miss Cluxton also is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Cluxton III of Scottsdale, Ariz. Miss Cluxton is a graduate of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale and received a master's degree in clinical/counsling psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2002.
