Doris J. Worrell, 71, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service Monday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg. The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa.

Mercersburg-area business people claim frequent truck inspections are hurting the community's commerce, but the police chief said his department simply is making the streets safer. During a Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday, business leaders peppered Mercersburg Police Chief John D. Zechman and Mayor James Zeger with questions and concerns about the police department's operations. The majority of the session focused on an officer's regular inspections of commercial vehicles.

Isabel L. Hawk, 86, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Falling Spring Nursing Center. There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service at Two Top Fellowship Church, Mercersburg. A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Paul A. Martin officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.

Richard E. Kipe, 92, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg, Pa. A viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and Wednesday one hour before the service at Two Top Fellowship Church, Mercersburg. The service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church.

Troop 7 of Mercersburg honored Benjamin Harris Troupe with the highest award in Scouting, the Eagle Rank, on June 2, 2012, at the Charles Brightbill Environmental Center in Mercersburg. The ceremonies team of Guneukitschik Lodge 317 Order of the Arrow conducted the Four Winds Eagle Court of Honor. Ethan Mowen, fellow Eagle Scout of Troop 7, began the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Pastor Elaine Swinehart gave the invocation. Lain Mowen, Scoutmaster of Troop 7, affirmed that Benjamin had completed all of the requirements necessary to receive the rank of Eagle.

Harry B. Hull, 92, of Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Falling Spring Nursing Center, Chambersburg. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, Pa. The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg. 

Naomi Weller, 70, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at her home. There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg. A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Police are investigating the theft of a woman's purse and the use of her debit card to withdraw money from her account. The Mercersburg Police Department said in a news release someone stole the victim's purse and wallet from her 1993 Ford pickup sometime between Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 14 at 8:45 a.m. The victim told police she thought she had locked the truck, which was parked across from 63 Linden Ave. in the borough. Police said items stolen from the truck were valued at $816.

Charles C. Kipe Sr., 84, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg. The service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.

Donald E. Hopkins, 82, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg. There will be no viewing.
