September 29, 2012
Marvin E. Mellott, 86, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. Born July 22, 1926, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Glenville and Ida Mae Knode Mellott. He was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, and retired in 1989 from General Motors Corp.

Beverly Mellott Higgins, 60, of Chambersburg, Pa., died Friday, June 15, 2012. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, Pa. The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annabelle Mellott, 89, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md., went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 18, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md. Born Oct. 21, 1922, in Clear Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Mayette Emerson Smith and Viola Willett Myers Smith. She was of the Protestant faith. She attended Calvary Temple Church at Williamsport and New Life Victory Center of Hagerstown. She was the co-founder of the Walnut Point Chapel.

Mary Louise Mellott, 71, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at her home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs. The service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Friday, March 30, 2012 PREP SOFTBALL Kristen Mellott tossed a two-hitter with three strikeouts as Clear Spring routed South Hagerstown 15-0 in an MVAL Antietam game Friday that was stopped after five innings. Heather Schlotterbeck had three hits, Lexi Albert had two hits, including a two-run inside-the-park home run, Tori Albert added a two-run inside-the-park home run and Sarah Elwood had two hits for the Blazers (4-0, 3-0). Ashlyn Hinkle had both hits for the Rebels (0-5)

Pearl A. Mellott Kruhm, 88, of Warfordsburg, Pa., died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at her residence. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa. The service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore, Pa.

Mr. Scottie R. Mellott Sr., 79, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, and formerly of 342 Tyrone St., Greencastle, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the nursing home. He had been in failing health for the past several years. Born Aug. 21, 1932, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Earl H. and Pauline (Bryan) Mellott. He attended Mercersburg schools. Mr. Mellott served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served as a paratrooper and Master Drill Sergeant.

The region had a busy National Signing Day as a throng of high school players officially disclosed where they were going to play college football by signing their Letter of Intent. Shepherd University swiped two players from Maryland on signing day. Williamsport athlete Tyler Wise will play for the Rams as either a wide receiver or a defensive back. Wise led the area with nine interceptions in 2011. Urbana quarterback Michael Spahr also signed to play for Shepherd. Clear Spring quarterback Adam Mellott, the first high school player in Washington County history to pass for over 2,000 yards in a season, will play at first-year program Alderson-Broaddus College in Phillipi, W.Va.
