FREDERICK, Md. - A man lying on Penn Shop Road died after he was struck by two cars early Tuesday, Maryland State Police in Frederick said Wednesday. Leroy J. Hilton, 44, no fixed address, was lying on Penn Shop Road at the intersection with Md. 80 at around 3:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 1983 Buick Regal driven by Michael R. Bankerd, 49, of Monrovia, Md., police said. Bankerd left the scene but returned an hour later, police said. Hilton was then struck by a 1986 Dodge Aries driven by Alex E. Storms, 19, of Ijamsville, Md., police said.

Police search for woman reported missing MOUNT AIRY, Md. - Maryland State Police were searching for a Frederick County, Md., woman who was last seen Friday afternoon. Debbie Grimes, 40, of 13146 Old National Pike, was last seen in the Mount Airy area, police said. She is described as a white woman, standing 5 feet, 2 inches, weighing 135 pounds with brown, shoulder-length hair. Grimes failed to report for work at the Mount Airy Weis Market on Friday and her family does not know where she is, police said.

A woman was killed and another injured last week in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Point of Rocks and Lander roads, Maryland State Police in Frederick County said. The crash occurred at 6:09 p.m. Thursday when the driver of a 2003 Kia Sorento, Linda M. Weddle, 65, address not given, failed to stop at a stop sign on Lander Road, police said. The Kia went into the intersection and was hit on the passenger's side by a westbound 2012 Ford Escape driven by Kay A. Brown, 54, address not given, police said.

A St. Mary’s County, Md., man died after a Friday afternoon accident on Interstate 70 in which he was thrown from his motorcycle, Maryland State Police said. Jeffrey Floyd Morrison, 40, of Mechanicsville, Md., was pronounced dead at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center after he was flown there by Maryland State Police helicopter, state police said. A 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading west on I-70 near Mussetter Road around 2:10 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, it swerved out of its lane, then into the center median and hit the guardrail, throwing the driver from the motorcycle, according to a state police news release.

Maryland State Police have charged a tractor-trailer driver in connection with an accident that closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 for more than six hours Friday. David Gallagher, 49, of Roswell, Ga., was charged with negligence, Maryland State Police Sgt. S. Wallace said Saturday. The accident occurred near Exit 2 just after 9 a.m., when Gallagher's tractor-trailer overturned and struck a car as it fell. "Basically, he came off the ramp too fast," Wallace said.

LIBERTYTOWN, Md. - A Frederick, Md., teenager died Monday when his car ran off the road near Libertytown and struck several trees, Maryland State Police said in a news release. Jacob William Hubble, 17, of the 9000 block of Clemsonville Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Hubble was driving east on New Windsor Road (Md. 31) in a Chevrolet Cavalier at about 6:39 p.m., when the car crossed the center line and left the roadway, police said. The car struck a culvert, continued off the road, struck several trees and came to rest in a stream, police said.

McHENRY, Md. - A 20-year-old Greencastle, Pa., man drowned Friday after he jumped from the U.S. 219 bridge in to Deep Creek Lake, according to a Maryland State Police press release. Jonathan McDaniel Witter jumped into the Garrett County lake at about 1:15 p.m. along with William Ray Gates, 26, also of Greencastle, police said. Gates was unsuccessful in his efforts to help Witter, who went under the water while trying to swim to shore, police said. Gates flagged down a Natural Resources Police boat, and officers summoned help from other agencies, including the Maryland State Police.

A passenger from a Honda CRV walks away from the scene of a four-vehicle pileup on Interstate 70 at Sharpsburg Pike at about 4:30 p.m. Monday. Maryland State Police alleged a tractor trailer driven by Howard Neugebauer Jr., 50, of Hagerstown, swerved into the path of that vehicle and of a Plymouth Voyager minivan and a Honda Accord. Neugebauer was charged with making an unsafe lane change, police said. No serious injuries were reported.

BOONSBORO ? A Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said that two people were injured in a vehicle crash about 5:45 a.m. today. The crash occurred in the 8600 block of Mapleville Road in Boonsboro, according to Maryland State Police. Police said there were no known fatalities, and the dispatcher said that two people were taken to a hospital. Police said no further information was available.
