FREDERICK, Md. - A 16-year-old Germantown, Md., girl who was thrown from a car when the driver lost control and hit an embankment was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Maryland State Police in Frederick said Thursday. Police said the accident at U.S. 340 and Md. 180 occurred at 12:10 p.m. when Hobart Junior Wilson III, who was driving a 1995 Ford Escort west on U.S. 340, lost control of the car and hit an embankment. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting Wilson, 29, of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

FREDERICK, Md. - A Hagerstown woman involved in a fatal accident on Friday on Interstate 70 west of Frederick remains in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a spokeswoman said Saturday. Jennifer Sikes, 19, was flown to the trauma center after the three-vehicle accident, Maryland State Police in Frederick said. Police said Surajudeen Ayinla Banwo, 59, of Bowie, Md., died from his injuries. Banwo's 14-year-old son, a passenger, was flown to John Hopkins Pediatric Center, where he underwent surgery for a fractured leg, police said Friday.

Maryland State Police said  a 65-year-old man with medical problems who had been reported missing Tuesday has been found safely. Gerald "Butch" Stine was located in a local hotel at about 10 a.m. Wednesday and was in good health, police said.

FREDERICK, Md. - Maryland State Police were investigating a traffic accident Friday on Interstate 70 in Frederick County, according to the Frederick barrack. The accident occurred about 4 p.m. near Bartholows Road, police said, and at least one person was transported to a hospital by helicopter. No further information was available Friday night.

The Hagerstown barrack of the Maryland State Police confirmed a serious traffic accident at about 3 p.m. Friday near the Sideling Hill Wildlife Management Area on Md. 68. A dispatcher for state police said several people were taken to the hospital. No further information was available at 5:45 p.m.

A body was found Sunday near the Appalachian Trail in the Brownsville area of Washington County, Maryland State Police said. The death is being treated as a suicide, police said.

One eastbound lane of traffic on Interstate 70 is closed near Big Pool while workers remove a tractor-trailer that was in an accident at about 6 a.m. today, Maryland State Police said. The accident occurred near the 10 mile-marker.

A Hagerstown man faces a murder charge after a shooting outside a Martinsburg night club early Saturday, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. The 3:14 a.m. shooting at Club Zero, at 1774 Winchester Ave., was followed by a police chase that ended after the suspects’ vehicle crashed on U.S. 40 near Clear Spring, police said. Damon McCarroll Scott was shot in the chest, police said. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department obtained a warrant for murder against Brock Jerome Smith, who was being held Saturday by Maryland State Police, the release said.

Five hunting rifles stolen in break-in Maryland State Police are investigating a break-in that happened at a home in Keedysville from which $20 in change and five hunting rifles were stolen. The break-in happened between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday at a home in the 3900 block of Trego Mountain Road, according to a press release from Maryland State Police. The burglar cut a screen and then raised an unlocked window on the front porch, police said. The change from taken from a jewelry box in a bedroom and the rifles were taken from the house's basement, police said.
