The St. Maria Goretti Gaels have recovered from a three-game losing streak by winning their last two. Goretti defeated the St. James Saints 52-34 on Saturday afternoon at the Gael Center. The St. Maria Goretti boys basketball team finished with a perfect league record by defeating St. John's Catholic Prep 70-52 on Friday night in an Independent Parochial School League game at the Gael Center. Gaels girls cut down turnovers, march past Saints By JACK HILL III / Staff Correspondent ST. JAMES - The St. Maria Goretti girls basketball team knew that it had to do something about its 30 turnovers per game average. On Thursday, the Gaels took a step in the right direction. The better ball control held the Gaels to a season-low 21 miscues, good enough to score a 54-27 win over St. James. "We have been making a real big effort to cut our number of turnovers in half," said Goretti center Lauren Costello, who finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
