PREP BASEBALL Mercersburg Academy 7, Hill School 5 MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Winning pitcher Josh Edgin pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning Sunday to lift Mercersburg Academy to a MAPL victory over The Hill School. Edgin, who gave the Blue Storm (3-0, 1-0) a 6-2 lead with his homer, finished with four RBI and allowed three walks and two earned runs. Garrett Fix had two hits and an RBI while Ryan colby had two hit. Josh Davis added a two-run homer in the third for Mercersburg.

andrewm@herald-mail.com SAINT JAMES - Jimmy Sutch shouldn't be taken lightly, even when his opponent on the wrestling mat outweighs him by nearly 20 pounds. The St. James junior, who's ranked second in the Maryland private-school state rankings at 171 pounds, bumped up a weight class Wednesday to take on Maret's Patrick Carr at 189 and got big results. Sutch teched out Carr 23-7 in 3:58 to improve to 15-0 on the season as the No. 6 Saints improved to 3-0 in the Mid Atlantic Conference (6-4 overall)

PREP CROSS COUNTRY Williamsport's Lilley runs to victory LEESBURG, Va. - Williamsport's Michael Lilley topped a field of 296 runners to win a title at the Oatlands Invitational. Lilley covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:53. Williamsport's Justin Cole was third in 17:06. In the girls race, Williamsport's Jordan Atha placed 10th out of 198 in 20:50. Carlisle Invitational CARLISLE, Pa. - James Buchanan's Lindsey Hollenshead placed third out of 282 runners in the Girls Champions race at the 14th annual Carlisle Invitational, covering the 3.1-mile course in 19:13.

Clear Spring squeaks past South By DAN KAUFFMAN / Staff Writer SMITHSBURG - Clear Spring boys soccer coach Matt Kinman enjoyed the effort of his Blazers in the first half of their Washington County Public Schools Tournament game against South Hagerstown on Saturday. Rebels coach James Aleshire felt pretty good himself after South mounted a late rally. Kinman and his Blazers left with the 2-1 victory, while Aleshire and his Rebels left confident that victories for South will eventually come.

PREP FOOTBALL ST. JAMES - Scott Lehman rushed for 203 yards on 21 carries, including four touchdowns runs, to lead Maryland School for the Deaf to a 39-0 victory over St. James in the Saints' season opener. Orioles quarterback Brandon McMillan completed 4 of 5 passes for two touchdowns - 33 yards to Neal Thompson and 20 yards to Carey Heisey. Heisey also had five rushes for 130 yards for MSD (2-0). Junior Jimmy Sutch led the Saints (0-1) with 32 yards on nine carries.

PREP WRESTLING HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Eight area wrestlers still are alive in the consolation brackets at the West Virgina State Wrestling Championships, which conclude today at Big Sandy Superstore Arena. In Class AAA, Musselman's Dustin Haislip (103 pounds), Hedgesville's Derrick Young (189) and Jefferson's Codie Gustines (135) and Corie Gustines (152) lost their championship semifinal matches Friday and are set to wrestle in today's consolation semifinals.
