CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Saturday morning at M&T Bank at 1750 Philadelphia Ave. in Greene Township, according to a state police press release. A man holding an unknown type of weapon went into the bank about 11:10 a.m. and fled after he received an undisclosed amount of money, police said. The man is described as white and between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, police said. He was wearing a blue bandanna, a long-sleeved blue shirt and a blue baseball cap, police said.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday was investigating a robbery at the M&T Bank at 14 W. Potomac St. in Williamsport, Lt. Mark Knight said. Deputies responded to the robbery at about 9:15 a.m. The robber was described as white, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a medium build, Knight said in a news release. The man was clean-shaven and wearing a maroon Washington Redskins T-shirt and a white baseball-style cap with a "T" on the front, Knight said. The robber left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, the investigator said.

BALTIMORE -- A federal jury on Thursday convicted a man in connection with a 2007 bank robbery in Hagerstown, a heist in which his grandson was his accomplice, according to a press release from the office of Rod J. Rosenstein, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. David Wilbert Shanton Sr., 54, of Winchester, Va., was convicted on armed bank robbery and gun charges arising from the Oct. 22, 2007, robbery of M&T Bank on Dual Highway, according to Rosenstein's office. Shanton also was convicted on a charge of attempted robbery of another bank, according to Rosenstein's office.

Washington County Public Schools employees were affected Friday by a direct deposit payroll issue. Staff members in the WCPS accounting department took action to remedy the problem, contacting M&T Bank, where payroll is posted, and notifying affected employees. M&T officials indicated that the accounts of WCPS employees at the bank would be corrected before the end of the business day, and that M&T was coordinating with other banks to have all affected employees' accounts posted Friday or as soon as possible Monday.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - This week's launching of the United Way of Franklin County's 2005 Campaign got off to a head start toward its $710,000 goal with more than $141,000 already in the coffers. The campaign officially was launched at a luncheon Wednesday at The Orchard Restaurant Lounge and Banquet Facility. This year's theme is "Grow Your Giving. " It is pegged on the old "Green Acres" television show. Campaign officials illustrated the theme by donning hillbilly attire at the luncheon.

Investigators are searching for a man wanted in connection with a Tuesday morning bank robbery in Williamsport. The robbery at M&T Bank, 14 W. Potomac St., was reported at 9:30 a.m., Investigator Greg Alton of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured. The robber passed a note to a bank teller indicating he had a weapon, Alton said. No weapon was displayed, but the robber took an undisclosed amount of cash, he said. Two customers and four tellers were in the bank during the robbery, the investigator said.

Charges against a man and his grandson accused of robbing M&T bank on Dual Highway in October will be forwarded to Washington County Circuit Court, court records show. A Washington County District Court judge found probable cause Tuesday to proceed with the 165 charges that have been filed against David Wilbert Shanton Sr., 53, of Winchester, Va. His grandson, Kevin Andre Shanton, 17, also of Winchester, waived his preliminary hearing, was also was scheduled for Tuesday, court records show.
