CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Franklin County Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to arrests in an Aug. 22 robbery at the M&T Bank branch at 1750 Philadelphia Ave. Two men entered the bank about 10:30 a.m., one of them armed with a handgun, Pennsylvania State Police have said. After taking the money, they last were seen running toward a dark late 1980s or early 1990s four-door Lincoln. Both men were black or Hispanic and wore dark bandannas over their faces, police have said.

marlob@herald-mail.com A man charged with robbing the M&T Bank in Clear Spring at gunpoint Tuesday morning was pursued by a citizen and then police who apprehended him after forcing the suspect's vehicle to crash near the Interstate 70/81 interchange. Anthony John Holliman, 24, of no fixed address, fled his disabled car and was tackled by Washington County Sheriff's deputies in the median of Interstate 70 just minutes after the 10:30 a.m. robbery at the 121 S. Mill St. bank, Deputy First Class Johnny Marshall said.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a bank robbery that took place Thursday afternoon on U.S. 30, east of Chambersburg near Walmart in Guilford Township, Pa. An unidentified male entered M&T Bank at 1798 Lincoln Way East (U.S. 30) and demanded money from the teller, Trooper 1st Class Chris Ott said in a news release. The man, who got away with an undetermined amount of cash, then placed a package on the teller's counter and “made reference to a bomb,” Ott said. The man fled the bank through the front door and crossed U.S. 30 to the north of the building, Ott said.

A Buffalo, N.Y.-based bank announced plans Wednesday to acquire Keystone Financial Inc., which has 17 branches in the Tri-State area. M&T Bank Corp. is buying Harrisburg, Pa.-based Keystone for $1 billion in stock and cash to expand its market, according to a statement at M&T's Web site at www.mandtbank.com. The deal will not result in any community banks closing or employee layoffs at the community banks, said Keystone spokeswoman Jacquelyn Basso. Keystone has seven branches in Washington County, including three in Hagerstown and one each in Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Sharpsburg and Williamsport.

BALTIMORE -- A Winchester, Va., shotgun-wielding man who was accompanied by his grandson when he robbed a Hagerstown bank was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore to more than 56 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Baltimore. David Wilbert Shanton Sr., 54, was convicted in March of armed bank robbery and gun charges that stemmed from an Oct. 22, 2007, robbery of the M&T Bank on Dual Highway in Hagerstown. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Shanton to 680 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Two men face multiple charges in a robbery Friday afternoon at M&T Bank at 10721 Fairway Lane south of Hagerstown, according to a Maryland State Police press release. John Christopher Thompson, 40, of 9355 Morning Walk Drive in Hagerstown, was charged with robbery, felony theft, assault, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit felony theft, police said. Juan Jamal Johnson, 37, of 236 Rubens Circle in Martinsburg, W.Va., was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit felony theft and possession of a fictitious driver's license, police said.
