With the last Blue Ridge Community and Technical College classes held at Berkeley County's government building in Martinsburg over, the school's move to a new campus is slated to begin on July 23. The first classes on the college's new main campus at 13650 Apple Harvest Drive west of Interstate 81 are set to begin Aug. 20, Leslie See, vice president of enrollment management at Blue Ridge CTC, told the Berkeley County Council on Thursday. The college received permission from the council to hang temporary banners announcing the move outside the soon-to-be-vacated main campus at 400 W. Stephen St. in Martinsburg.

A 17-year-old girl who went missing Sunday morning in Quincy Township was later found “in good health,” according to Pennsylvania State Police. The girl, who was not named by police, was last seen at a Monn Drive address near the intersection of Mentzer Gap and Tomstown roads, and the Tomstown pump. Police did not say where or how she was found.

A grand-opening ceremony was held Feb. 10 for L&L Classic Clothing at its new location at 17611 Virginia Ave. in the Old Orchard Shopping Center in Halfway. L&L Classic Clothing is a consignment shop that specializes in lightly used women's apparel, including dresses, blouses, slacks, suits and shoes, owner Lola Mosby said. The business, which was formerly on Potomac Street in downtown Hagerstown, might also offer men's clothing in the future. Since opening at the location in late January, Mosby said she's enjoyed meeting new clients and the abundance of available parking in the shopping center.

Fencing has been obtained, but the location for what would be Berkeley County's first dog park has yet to be finalized. Ambrose Park in Martinsburg is being eyed for the project, and Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation Board Executive Director R. Stephen “Steve” Catlett told board members other locations are being explored. Recreation officials received interest from residents who indicated they take their animals to the dog park at Jim Barnett Park in Winchester, Va., There are no public dog parks in Hagerstown or Washington County, Md., but a proposal for a dog park in Hagerstown's north end has been proposed.

An effort to build a modern library on a donated 4.5-acre brownfield site outside town was moving forward in recent months until proponents say it was “short circuited” by some local merchants and residents who are demanding that the library stay in town. Opponents of the brownfield site west of town, led by Meridith Wait, president of the 24-member Shepherdstown Business Association, came up with their own building - the one that housed the former W.H. Knode's Sons Southern States farm store on the corner of East Washington and South Princess streets.

Two vacant buildings at the corner of North Locust Street and East Avenue are slated to be torn down to make way for a proposed community park, once the Hagerstown City Council gives the go-ahead. The five-person council is expected vote to accept a $29,600 demolition contract with Allegany Wrecking & Salvage of Hagerstown at Tuesday's regular session, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The two buildings, which were purchased by the city in December 2011, are at 101 East Ave. and 144 N. Locust St., City Engineer Rodney Tissue said, and will make way for a new “pocket park,” also known as a city minipark that is accessible to the general public.

The Hagerstown City Council Tuesday evening unanimously approved the introduction of ordinances that would designate school speed-camera zones and approve a loan to buy larger recycling bins for city residents. The five-member council approved the introduction of an ordinance that establishes citywide school zones, which was first presented by Police Chief Arthur Smith last Tuesday. The school zone ordinance would establish speed limits at more than a dozen locations near Hagerstown schools that could be sites for new speed-monitoring cameras.
