Letterkenny zoning approved SCOTLAND, Pa. - A flexible zoning plan for Letterkenny Army Depot will go into effect on Monday which has the approval of nearby residents, the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority and the Greene Township Supervisors. The supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to amend the zoning map, zoning ordinance and subdivision and land development ordinance to clear the way for zoning at the depot as sections are turned over to LIDA for private sector development.

By LISA GRAYBEAL Staff Writer, Chambersburg CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority signed a three-year lease with Martinez Consulting & Computer Services Inc. this week, marking the second tenant to take advantage of space at Letterkenny Army Depot transferred to Franklin County for development. The technical and computer consulting firm, known as MCCS Inc. with headquarters in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area, has outgrown its local office at 1137 S. Fourth St., Chambersburg, Pa., and plans to expand at its new location, said Robert Zullinger, authority chairman.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - These are Lean times at Letterkenny Army Depot, and despite an increased workload and growing work force, the Army is looking forward to an even leaner future. Lean manufacturing, a comprehensive and continuous approach to eliminating waste and improving productivity, was adopted at the depot about three years ago. The success of that system in maintaining, repairing and overhauling the Patriot missile air defense system was recognized Tuesday with the 2005 Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing.

Letterkenny plans closings CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Public recycling at Letterkenny Army Depot will end May 10 and golf could face a similar fate by the end of the year as a result of the continuing downsizing of the depot. The borough of Chambersburg, St. Thomas Township, depot employees and members of the public have been bringing cans, bottles and other recyclable materials to the depot for years. Lisa Byers, real estate coordinator for the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority, said Monday that's one of several activities the Army will cut back on in the next year.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rates approved Monday by the Franklin County General Authority will make the cost of water and sewer service for the Army and future occupants of Letterkenny Army Depot comparable to those in surrounding communities . On Tuesday, the authority set the rate at $3 per 1,000 gallons for water and $5 per 1,000 gallons for sewer service, according to John Van Horn, facilities manager for the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority....

By LAURA ERNDE Staff Writer CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin County residents will get their first look Thursday at ideas for redeveloping Letterkenny Army Depot. The downsizing military base is giving nearly 2,000 acres to the county that it will no longer use. On Thursday, development consultants will inform the community about what they see as the best opportunities for the land, said Pam Gaudiose, executive director of Franklin County Reuse Inc. "Everybody should have a vested interest in what happens here," Gaudiose said.
