Area roundup from Monday YOUTH LEAGUES West End L.L. Banquet The West End Little League Banquet is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Club on Ravenwood Drive. Tickets can be purchased today or Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Little League Park. Thurman Smith Minor League Tournament South Mountain 15, Valley 14: Justin Ellsworth had four hits to propel South Mountain to the tournament crown. Aaron Twigg and Hank Henlin added two hits for the winners, while Mark Yates had three hits for Valley.

YOUTH LEAGUES FREDERICK, Md. - District 1 champion Valley fell 10-1 to District 5 champ Elkton on Saturday in the opening round of the Maryland Little League 11-12 State Tournament at Frederick National Little League, where all of the tournament games will be held. Ben Daniels homered and doubled and Robby Hogue singled twice for Valley. Valley will play the loser of today's Easton-Fruitland game at 6 p.m. Monday. The seven-team double-elimination tournament runs through Thursday.

Youth Roundup Halfway Little League Gehr 10, Hoffman 3: Justin Bussard and Derrick Wolfensberger combined for a four-hitter and 10 strikeouts for Gehr. Bussard, Wolfensberger and Kory Harp each had two hits for the winners. Ryan Heavner had two hits for Hoffman. West End Little League Coca-Cola 11, Elks 1: Dustin Boward had four hits and Zack Koontz homered to lead Coca-Cola. Josh Ocasio had two hits for Elks. Federal Little League Rotary 17, Lions 2: Cody Nelling had three hits and Mark Dattilio and Colin McWilliams added two hits each for Rotary.

BLUE RIDGE BASEBALL NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. - Nate Reeser went 5-for-7 with three triples, two doubles and eight RBI over two games, as the Hagerstown Braves opened the Harrisburg Firecracker Tournament with a 9-2 win over Lawnton followed by a 13-2 five-inning victory over the Norristown A's on Saturday. Pat Sweeney went 2-for-3 with three RBI and pitched a complete game against Lawnton, while Kevin Crawford and John Quail each added two hits. Jamus Peterman went the distance against Norristown without allowing an earned run, while Trey Cobb went 3-for-4 and Quenton Rouse went 2-for-3.

WINCHESTER, Va. - Terry Ronan hit a game-ending two-run home run in the seventh inning Sunday to lead Denbigh (Va.) to a 6-4 victory to eliminate Funkstown Post 211 in the semifinals of the Winchester Firecracker American Legion Tournament. Phillip Powell had two hits, including an RBI single in Funkstown's three-run fifth for a 4-3 lead. Kyle Robinson capped the rally with a two-run double. Starting pitcher T.J. Hose struck out six in six innings for Funkstown (18-9), which finished third in the tournament.

BLUE RIDGE LEAGUE Trey Cobb scored the game-winning run on a hit-and-run RBI double by Mike Spry to lift Hagerstown past Greencastle 1-0 on Monday. Brian Renner tossed a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts for the win. Spry and Kevin Crawford each had two hits for the Hagerstown (11-0). YOUTH LEAGUES West End Little League Elks 18, Stags 4: Ryan Cornett had a grand slam for Elks. Brandon Hess had two hits for Stags. West End Minor FOP 9, Hiser's Concrete 8: Kevin Kretzer, Dustin Simmons, and Trevor Shuck each had three hits for FOP. Paul Bigler and Josh Shingleton each had three hits for Hiser.
