Jordan Elizabeth Bohrer of Needmore, Pa., a senior studying psychology, is the daughter of William Bohrer and Vicki Ott and a 2009 graduate of McConnellsburg (Pa.) Senior High School. Mary Catherine Buntin of Mount Airy, Md., a senior studying psychology, is the daughter of Steven and Martha Buntin and a 2008 graduate of Urbana (Md.)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. ? Kathleen Vanderau of Scotland, Pa., was selected as a "best performer" to participate in the fall semester honors recital. Vanderau performed "Mexican Murals" by Thomas Brown, on the marimba. She is the daughter of Douglas and Harriett Vanderau and is a sophomore studying international business. The Juniata Music Department Honors Recital is the premier event for student solo musicians at Juniata College. Each semester, studio faculty members select their best performers for this recital.

Carrington Jones of Hagerstown, a student at Juniata College, will attend the  2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. One of the college's professors creates an entire course focused on the political conventions. The students attend the conventions, blog, work at internships at the conventions and attend seminars before the conventions. At the convention, delegates of the Republican Party will choose the party's nominees for president and vice president.

The Rotary Club of Long Meadows selected three local students to attend the Rotary Young Leader Awards program. The goal of the program is to help the students develop leadership skills such as forming consensus, team building and public speaking.

Anna K. "Kit" Winger, 82, died at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013. She was born in Waynesboro, Pa., on Oct. 13, 1930, to Frank H. and Ruth (Roth) Winger. She graduated from Greencastle High School in Greencastle, Pa., and Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., and then received a master's degree in library science from Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, Pa. Her professional career began with the organization of the library at James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, Pa.; back to Juniata College library as assistant librarian, then cataloging books (even in Russian)

Tuesday, November 15, 2011 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NEWARK, Del. - Yolonda Pinkcett scored 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting and added 13 rebounds to post a double-double and lead Hagerstown Community College past Delaware Tech 60-57 on Tuesday. Sunny Flores had 20 points and Akatshi Osongo had six points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks (3-0), who held a 41-28 rebounding edge. COLLEGE FOOTBALL Stubbs receives league honor HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College freshman Nick Stubbs, a South Hagerstown High graduate, received honorable mention as a kick and punt returner in All-Centennial Conference voting released Tuesday.

Jo Ann Johnston Frontz, 72, daughter of the late C. Harold and Orrilla P. Johnston of Hagerstown, Md., passed away March 12, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, U.S. Navy Ret. Lt. Cmdr. Richard Frontz; her son, Michael Frontz and wife, Cara and grandchildren, Matthew and Maggie Frontz; sister, Julie Johnston Geib and husband, Dennis, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; nieces, Jennifer Hahn and husband, Jim, of Mechanicsburg and Amy Sturgis and husband, Joel, of Huntingdon, Tenn., and their children, Max and Alicia Hahn, and Molly and Samuel Sturgis.

LaRue Helen Hitchens, 96, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, Md., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport. Born May 8, 1916, in Defiance, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Arthur and Edna Pearl Rorabaugh Hitchens. She was a graduate of Everett High School, Everett, Pa. She was a 1936 graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon, Pa. She earned her master's degree in education from the University of Maryland. She was a member of AARP, the Maryland Retired Teachers Association, and the Washington County Retired Teachers Association.
