McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - JLG Industries Inc. in McConnellsburg will be producing $39.5 million worth of ATLAS telehandlers for the U.S. Army under an order announced Monday. "This is actually the program we have had with the Army for a number of years," said Kirsten Skyba, vice president of marketing communications. Although the manufacturer is developing a newer model, the Army requested the telehandlers that match ones ordered in a $23 million contract from August 2006, she said.

McCONNELSBURG, Pa. -- JLG Industries Inc. announced Friday it was awarded a $40 million contract from the U.S. Marine Corps to build 280 extendable boom forklifts. The work will be completed at the McConnellsburg plant but no new jobs will be created, JLG spokesman Jeff Ford said. "We should be staffed to handle this contract," he said. "This contract speaks well of our work force and product. " Production of the forklifts is expected to be completed by Aug. 2012. "With increasing frequency, the U.S. military is looking to JLG Industries for the technical expertise that provides solutions to their equipment challenges," said Denny Buterbaugh, vice president of government products and programs for JLG Industries.

What's new: Oshkosh Truck Corp. of Wisconsin on Monday officially announced it signed an agreement to acquire global access equipment leader JLG Industries Inc. for $3.2 billion. JLG maintains executive offices in Hagerstown and manufacturing sites in McConnellsburg and Shippensburg in Pennsylvania. What's next: The deal is expected to create a $6 billion manufacturer of specialty vehicles. The acquisition, subject to closing conditions, might create limited job shifting due to duplication, but will not mean changes for the vast majority of workers, an Oshkosh spokeswoman said.

McCONNELLSBURG, PA. - The merger between JLG Industries Inc. and Oshkosh Truck Corp. is planned to occur Wednesday, corporate officials said in a news release. JLG shareholders have approved the agreement, which was announced in October. Oshkosh, a Wisconsin-based vehicle manufacturer, previously said the acquisition comes as part of a $3.2 billion cash deal. The McConnellsburg manufacturing site of JLG, a global manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, employs about 2,000 people.

JLG names replacement for outgoing chairman McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - JLG Industries Inc. Thursday has announced a management change. Current president and chief executive officer William M. Lasky was appointed by the JLG board of directors as chairman of the board, effective in February, the company said in a release. Current Chairman L. David Black plans to retire, officials said. "Bill has proven himself to be the ideal individual to lead JLG's growth into the 21st century," said Black.

WELLS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Wells Tannery, Pa., man was killed Friday night when he lost control of his car and overturned on Pa. 915, Pennsylvania State Police said. Galen D. Wright, 38, of 7962 North Valley Road, was driving north in Wells Township when he lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Z24 Cavalier about 8:39 p.m., police said. Wright's car crossed the southbound lane and went down a steep embankment, coming to rest on its roof, police said. Fulton County Deputy Coroner Burly Souders pronounced Wright dead at the scene.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - JLG Industries Inc., a subsidiary of Oshkosh Truck Corp., was presented with an award from Letterkenny Army Depot. Col. Robert A. Swenson, Letterkenny Depot commander, presented the award to Peter Bonafede Jr., senior vice president of Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain. The award was given in appreciation to JLG for sharing lean-manufacturing practices and allowing Letterkenny personnel to visit JLG manufacturing facilities over the past three years.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Despite some softness in its Asian markets, JLG Industries Inc. recorded strong first quarter sales of $128.7 million, according to a company report. The company's sales for the quarter ending Oct. 31 were its highest first quarter sales ever. Sales increased 35 percent from the $95.6 million in the first quarter of 1998, according to the report released last week. Net income was also up sharply to $10.3 million, compared to $4.6 million for the first quarter of 1998.
