Police responded to an accident on Jefferson Boulevard at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. However, the road was clear by 1:54. The accident happened near Smithsburg.

Maryland State Police are seeking information on a burglary that happened Wednesday on Jefferson Boulevard. A burglary at a private residence in the 20000 block of Jefferson Boulevard was reported to the Hagerstown barrack at about 3:18 p.m., police said in a news release. A jewelry box containing various jewelry items valued at approximately $500 was reported stolen, police said. A small black car was observed parked in the driveway of the residence around noon Wednesday, police said.

The intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Mapleville Road has reopened after an accident briefly blocked off part of it. The accident occurred before 6 a.m. today, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said.  The Washington County Sheriff's Office was notified of the incident at 5:59 a.m., the supervisor said.

Charles Shifflett was watching football in his house on Jefferson Boulevard Sunday afternoon when a sport utility vehicle slammed into the front of his home. "It was just a big bang. The Christmas tree fell on the floor, balls went everywhere and I went out the door," Shifflett said. Trooper 1st Class J.R. Bowers of the Maryland State Police estimated the 1997 Toyota 4Runner was traveling between 60 mph and 70 mph when it went through Shifflet's front yard, struck a tree, went airborne and struck the house.

A Leitersburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. tanker truck and a car being driven by a Boonsboro woman collided at the intersection of Ringgold Pike and Jefferson Boulevard Thursday afternoon, Maryland State Police said. The 1994 Freightliner tanker truck, which had its emergency lights and siren activated, was traveling east on Ringgold Pike on its way to a structure fire in Franklin County, according to police and Kirk Mongan, chief of the fire department. As the tanker approached the intersection with Jefferson Boulevard about 5:20 p.m., a 1997 Pontiac Trans Am being driven by Tina Marie Morris, 48, pulled into the intersection from southbound Jefferson Boulevard, according to police.

An accident was reported Friday afternoon in the 22000 block of Jefferson Boulevard, a dispatcher for Washington County Emergency Services said. Traffic was not affected by the accident, which was reported at 12:54 p.m. At 1:34 p.m., a Ford Explorer was off the road on the westbound side of Jefferson Boulevard with damage to the front and the driver's side tire. In front of the Explorer, facing the same direction, was a GMC Sierra pickup truck with damage to its back right side.

One person was injured Friday morning in an accident at the intersection of Little Antietam Road and Jefferson Boulevard, Lt. Mark Knight of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. A Chevrolet pickup truck turning left from Jefferson Boulevard eastbound onto Little Antietam Road went over a set of railroad tracks and collided with the front of a Nissan Frontier turning from Little Antietam Road onto Jefferson Boulevard, Knight said. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Meritus Medical Center with minor injuries, Knight said.

Eleanora Rebecca Grove Miller, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013. She lived on Jefferson Boulevard in Hagerstown since 1950. Eleanora was born Feb. 4, 1918, on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown. She was the daughter of Lola Arnold (from Burkittsville) and William Washington Grove. Eleanora was preceded in death by her parents and her five older siblings, Beatrice Grove Ringer, Helen Grove Dare, Willard E. Grove, Victor M. Grove and George A. Grove. Her love of traveling began as a child, when she joined her Aunt Vernie and cousins on trips to Niagara Falls, Atlantic City and various other places throughout the East Coast.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating a number of mail thefts that were reported Thursday near the east end of Hagerstown. Deputy 1st Class Carly Hose, sheriff's office spokeswoman, said deputies were called at about 5 p.m. for reports of mail being stolen on Security Road, Jefferson Boulevard and numerous side streets in that area. She said deputies searched the area and continued to find discarded mail on the streets until 7 p.m. Deputies believe the person or people who took the mail discarded mail that wasn't of value and kept everything else, Hose said.

Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Itnyre Road, Trooper Jim Ardinger of the Maryland State Police said. The driver of a Jeep pulled out onto Jefferson Boulevard from Itnyre Road and collided with a Honda on the 22000 block of Jefferson Boulevard, Ardinger said. Both were taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown, Ardinger said. They were the only occupants of the vehicles, he said.

Betty L. Willard, 85, of Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Hampton, Va. Born March 14, 1927, near Garfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Bina S. (Lewis) Harne. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles L. Willard, who passed April 2, 2007. They were married June 17, 1944. She was a 1944 graduate of Middletown (Md.) High School. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. Shrader and husband, Roy, of Hampton; one son, Paul L. Willard and wife, Patty, of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Md. 66, also known as Mapleville Road, is scheduled to close Wednesday night at 9 p.m. between Mount Aetna and Chewsville roads for overnight maintenance work, Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) District Community Liaison Heather Keels said. "We are replacing a drainage pipe under Md. 66 just north of the roundabout at Mount Aetna Road," Keels said. A detour plan will be set up for motorists in each direction, according to Keels. Motorists heading northbound on Md. 66 can take Mount Aetna Road to Robinwood Drive to Jefferson Boulevard.

Organizers for the emergency vehicle procession being held Tuesday in honor of Brigitte Heller, the county's emergency medical services coordinator who died Thursday, are advising residents interested in seeing the procession not to stop along the side of the road. People interested in watching the procession should find a parking lot away from traffic so they are not driving and watching at the same time, and should keep their vehicles away from the roadsides along the route, according to an email from Washington County Division of Emergency Services Emergency Planner Sam Anderson.

A Hagerstown man was charged in a pair of armed robberies along Jefferson Boulevard Saturday evening that occurred in a matter of minutes, according to Maryland State Police. Mark Edward Ernst, no age given, was driving a vehicle that matched the description issued by emergency dispatchers - a green Chevrolet passenger vehicle occupied by one white male - about eight minutes after the second robbery, police said in a news release. A man described as wearing camouflage shorts armed with a screwdriver demanded money from Phil and Jerry's Meats and More at 22937 Jefferson Blvd.

Hydrant flushing in Hagerstown that began on Wednesday, March 28, will be extended through April 20 in the following areas: The area involving all residential developments along Md. 64 (Jefferson Boulevard/Cavetown Pike) from Greendale Drive to Cavetown, including Chewsville, Havenwood Hills, Beaverbrook, Holiday Acres, HCC, Woodbridge, Youngstown, Robins Glenn, Brightwood, Black Rock Estates and Sycamore Heights. Water customers in those areas, particularly those using automatic washing machines, are cautioned to frequently check their water supply for discolored water which may occur because of the work.
