The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, W.Va. The service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Rosedale Cemetery.

Christopher C. Saunders, 19, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Monday, June 27, 2011, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Paul V. “Elmo” “P.J.” Avella III, 35, of Cherry Run, Morgan County, W.Va., died Monday, June 13, 2011, at  Inova Fairfax Hospital. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, W.Va. The service is Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Morgan County.  

The Rev. Samuel Matthew Payne, 59, of Falls Church, Va., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to11 a.m. at Victory Church, Falls Church. The service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mahnes Chapel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Joyce Ann Young, 59, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- A woman shot in the head Friday night at a McCoy's Ferry Road home has been released from Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., but her husband remains hospitalized, Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy Lt. Gary Harmison said Sunday. Harmison, who said he wasn't prepared to release the victims' names, said the man, who is in his late 50s, was improving and should be released soon. "We haven't really established a motive yet," the sheriff's deputy said of the 8 p.m. shooting with a small-caliber weapon.

RANSON, W.Va. -- A man died Monday at a Virginia hospital from injuries he received Saturday evening in a bicycle accident in Ranson, Ranson Police Chief William "Bill" Roper said. The man was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after he wrecked the bicycle in the 500 block of 11th Avenue, Roper said. The victim, believed to be 33 years old, apparently attempted to make the bike jump while on a ramp and crashed in what Roper described as "kind of a freak accident.

Dakotah Lynn Mahaffy of Ranson, W.Va., died at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. The service will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
