CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Frederick, Md., man died following a two-car accident Friday night at U.S. 340 and Old Country Club Road, Jefferson County Medical Examiner Doug Pittinger said. Hrang Bik Thang, 32, was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where he died, Pittinger said. Thang was one of three people riding in a car which collided with a pickup truck about 9 p.m., officials said. Two women riding in the car were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Pittinger said he did not know the severity of their injuries.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A West Virginia State Police trooper who was seriously injured in an accident Wednesday night has been moved from intensive care into the immediate care unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., a hospital spokesperson said Friday night. There was no reported change in his condition. Sgt. Scott E. Paugh was in critical condition following surgery Thursday afternoon. Paugh's police cruiser was struck by a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder on Golf Course Road near Martinsburg, police said.

Two motorists were flown to a Virginia hospital Saturday after two vehicles collided head-on on Hedgesville Road just west of Hedgesville, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Office news release. The crash in the area of BJ Dennie Lane was reported at 5:26 p.m., and Hedgesville Road was shut down for about 90 minutes, according to deputies and a Berkeley County emergency communications supervisor. Emergency responders had to cut open the vehicles to remove the motorists, who then were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., deputies said.

A man who was shot by a Martinsburg police officer and shocked with a stun gun multiple times faces extradition from Virginia, where he was still being treated Tuesday, authorities said. Martinsburg police Detective S.F. Doyle said Tuesday he could not comment on Douglas Charles Butler's medical condition, but said the department would pursue his extradition from Virginia to be prosecuted on a charge of attempted malicious wounding. Butler was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after he was shot in the chest by an officer and shocked with a Taser, which uses electrical current to disrupt an individual's voluntary muscle control.

Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education, in cooperation with Washington County Health System Inc., presents a seminar titled "Advanced Stethoscope Skills; Heart, Breath & Abdominal Sounds. " This seminar will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Robinwood Medical Center. The seminar will teach students about the mechanism for sound production in the human body, how to differentiate between normal and abnormal sounds produced in the chest cavity and abdomen, how to identify the pathophysiologic basis for the production of crackles, bronchi, wheezes, pleural friction rub and egophony, and more.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the apparent shooting of a 20-year-old Shepherd University student early Thursday. The student, a Shepherdstown, W.Va.,  resident, was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., and is expected to recover from the injury, according to Sheriff's Department Detective Tracy Edwards. The shooting happened along W.Va. 480 between midnight and 1 a.m., in Jefferson County, said Edward, who could not specify an exact location.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man involved in a head-on collision on Dry Run Road in Berkeley County Monday morning was in critical condition this morning at City Hospital. Preston Creswell, 19, was taken to the hospital shortly after the 7:17 a.m. accident, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department. The other driver, Kathleen Salmons, 41, of Kent Court, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., deputies said. Her condition was not available this morning.

A Martinsburg, W.Va., man is expected to survive injuries he suffered after he wrecked a motorcycle on Summit Point Road Sunday evening, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman. Michael Pierson, 30, was riding a dirt bike on Summit Point Road at McCormack Lane when he went into a curve, said Cpl. Dustin Tabler, who responded to the scene about 6:49 p.m. The motorcycle hit some potholes and Pierson was ejected over the front of the motorcycle, Tabler said.

An Inwood, W.Va., woman was killed Friday morning after the vehicle she was driving struck a pole and a tree along Leetown Road, according to West Virginia State Police. April Roberts, 40, of Inwood, was driving a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo south on Leetown Road at about 10:40 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, police said. The Isuzu ran off the east side of the road, struck a utility pole then a tree. Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Jack Spindle, 39 also of Inwood, was in the vehicle when it crashed and was injured, police said.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Maryland man has been indicted for driving under the influence causing death in a fatal two-car crash Sept. 20, 2007, on U.S. 340, according to court records. Richard Lewis Morris Sr., of 338 Fair Ave. in Westminster, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury that convened in Jefferson County Circuit Court this week. Morris was sought by police after a wreck on U.S. 340 near the Halltown Road intersection north of Charles Town in which a southbound white Nissan struck another car from behind at a high rate of speed, Cpl. Vincent Tiong of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said previously.
