Two people were taken to local hospitals this morning after the car they were in struck a tree, Berkeley County Emergency Services officials said. The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. on Apple Harvest Drive near the Berkeley County border with Frederick County, Va., officials said. One person was thrown from the car and another was trapped inside, officials said. Both people were taken to hospitals -- one to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center and the other to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., officals said.

Tristan Hugh Evarts, 16, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Inova Fairfax Hospital after suffering multiple injuries from an automobile accident on Dec. 27, 2010. A celebration of Tristan’s life will be held at Hedgesville High School on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at Hedgesville United Methodist Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Tomahawk Cemetery will be private. CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Maryland man wanted by police after a fatal two-car crash Sept. 20 on U.S. 340 in Jefferson County has been charged with DUI causing death, according to court records. Richard Lewis Morris Sr., 45, of 338 Fair Ave. in Westminster, Md., was being held Thursday night at Eastern Regional Jail on $50,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman said. Morris initially was picked up on a fugitive warrant for DUI causing death in Carroll County, Md., police said. Morris has agreed to turn himself in here, according to Lt. Dave Colbert of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

A Germantown, Md., woman was thrown from the vehicle she was driving on Interstate 81 Monday after crashing near the exit for Hedgesville, W.Va., the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said. Linda Overstreet, 51, was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after being found lying on the ground near exit 16, according to police and emergency officials. Overstreet was not listed as a patient at the hospital as of 5 p.m., an Inova Fairfax Hospital spokesman said.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Virginia man was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was riding in flipped on W.Va. 9 east of Charles Town, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Killed was David Allen Rinker, 23, of Middletown, Va., according to sheriff's officials. Also riding in the car was Pete Colvin, 24, of Millville, deputies said. Colvin, who suffered head injuries, was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia, where he was listed in fair condition Thursday evening, according to a hospital spokesman.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Funeral services were held Thursday for a 49-year-old man who died early Sunday after a one-vehicle accident on Eagle School Road, just north of Martinsburg. Herston "Lennie" Mintz Jr. died at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., where he was flown after the accident, Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Lt. Ron Gardner confirmed Wednesday night. Mintz was traveling south toward Martinsburg on Eagle School Road in his work truck when the pickup crossed the center line and struck a tree, Gardner said.

LEESBURG, Va. (AP) -- The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says one man was killed and another was seriously injured Monday in a two-vehicle crash on Va. 9. It happened shortly after 7 a.m. Monday about a half mile east of Va. 704. Deputies say 33-year-old Michael Johnson of Ranson, W.Va., was traveling east on Va. 9 when his car crossed the double yellow line and crashed head-on with a vehicle driven by 37-year-old George Hoover of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Johnson died in the crash.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Two people were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia following a two-vehicle accident Tuesday about 4 p.m. in the 3400 block of Sulphur Springs Road, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department press release. The cause of the accident, which involved a GMC Yukon and a Buick Century, was being investigated, deputies said. The driver and the back seat passenger of the Buick had to be freed from the vehicle before they were flown to the hospital, deputies said.
