A driver was airlifted to a Virginia hospital Wednesday following a single-vehicle accident near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies say a blue Plymouth Neon was found resting in a field east of the intersection of Novak Drive and Airport Road. The driver, identified as Matthew Miller, no age or address given, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the release said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

RANSON, W.Va. -- A man died Monday at a Virginia hospital from injuries he received Saturday evening in a bicycle accident in Ranson, Ranson Police Chief William "Bill" Roper said. The man was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after he wrecked the bicycle in the 500 block of 11th Avenue, Roper said. The victim, believed to be 33 years old, apparently attempted to make the bike jump while on a ramp and crashed in what Roper described as "kind of a freak accident.

Three people were taken to a hospital early Sunday after the vehicle in which they were riding crashed on Old Mill Road in Berkeley County, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court documents. The driver, Michael Stevenson Viands, 35, of Clarksburg, W.Va., was in Eastern Regional Jail Monday night on charges of driving revoked for driving under the influence, reckless driving and fleeing in a vehicle causing bodily harm resulting from his flight, according to jail and court records.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- A woman shot in the head Friday night at a McCoy's Ferry Road home has been released from Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., but her husband remains hospitalized, Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy Lt. Gary Harmison said Sunday. Harmison, who said he wasn't prepared to release the victims' names, said the man, who is in his late 50s, was improving and should be released soon. "We haven't really established a motive yet," the sheriff's deputy said of the 8 p.m. shooting with a small-caliber weapon.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Three people who were injured after the Ford Explorer in which they were riding rolled and went airborne Sunday morning on Interstate 81 remained hospitalized Monday, officials said. According to witness accounts, another vehicle might have swerved in front of the 2001 Ford Explorer near the Falling Waters, W.Va., exit, West Virginia State Police said. It is unclear if that occurred, Sgt. David Boober said Monday. The driver of the Explorer, Deborah Riviello, 55, of Bessemer City, N.C., cannot remember if someone swerved in front of her, Boober said.

At least three of four people in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport south of Martinsburg were being treated at a Virginia hospital Thursday, West Virginia State Police said. Berkeley County resident Jeremy Wright, his girlfriend, Danielle Combs of Inwood, W.Va., Wright's 8-year-old daughter and another man were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after the crash, which occurred at about 8 p.m. on Airport Road near Snooks Lane, according to Trooper B.D. French.

Shirley Jean Funk, 74, of Hancock, Md., died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va. Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Eugene M. and Edna Louise Bowers Hoffman. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church. Shirley enjoyed bowling with Funkstown Suburbanites and volunteered as statistician. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to the Funkstown fire hall and Halfway Fire Co. She liked baseball and watching the Orioles.

Seven hospitalized in W.Va. 340 wreck By BOB PARTLOW / Staff Writer, Martinsburg MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Seven people were taken to the hospital and one person charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a four-car accident that snarled traffic for two hours at Cliffside on State Route 340 near Harper's Ferry about 8:50 p.m. Saturday. Arrested at 11:23 p.m. was Jean Ann Rellins, 39, Falls Church, Va., said Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Desiree Palmer.

Thirteen and a half years ago, Brittney Mazie benefited from March of Dimes' services as she laid in a hospital incubator connected to an oxygen machine and heart monitor. Just 3 pounds when she was born, Brittney spent three months in Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., during what her mother called a “very scary” time. “In the hospital, March of Dimes contacted me to see if they could be of any help,” said Andrea Mazie, Brittney's mother. On Sunday, Brittney wanted to walk in the March of Dimes March for Babies fundraiser at Norlo Park to help babies in similar situations.
