Teresa Lynn Sherrard, 45, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs and Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hancock Assembly of God, Hancock. The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Three people were taken to a hospital early Sunday after the vehicle in which they were riding crashed on Old Mill Road in Berkeley County, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court documents. The driver, Michael Stevenson Viands, 35, of Clarksburg, W.Va., was in Eastern Regional Jail Monday night on charges of driving revoked for driving under the influence, reckless driving and fleeing in a vehicle causing bodily harm resulting from his flight, according to jail and court records.

Thirteen and a half years ago, Brittney Mazie benefited from March of Dimes' services as she laid in a hospital incubator connected to an oxygen machine and heart monitor. Just 3 pounds when she was born, Brittney spent three months in Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., during what her mother called a “very scary” time. “In the hospital, March of Dimes contacted me to see if they could be of any help,” said Andrea Mazie, Brittney's mother. On Sunday, Brittney wanted to walk in the March of Dimes March for Babies fundraiser at Norlo Park to help babies in similar situations.

An Ellicott City, Md., man died Sunday at a Virginia hospital after participating in the Tough Mudder endurance series in Berkeley County on Saturday, police said. Avishek Sengupta, 28, was pronounced dead at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Ted Snyder said Monday. Sengupta's death was ruled accidental by the Virginia medical examiner's office in Manassas, Va., which said Monday afternoon that drowning was the cause of death. Sengupta had to be removed from a fairly deep pool at the “Walk the Plank” aquatic obstacle where it appears he was submerged for too long, according to Snyder.

Shirley Jean Funk, 74, of Hancock, Md., died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Va. Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Eugene M. and Edna Louise Bowers Hoffman. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church. Shirley enjoyed bowling with Funkstown Suburbanites and volunteered as statistician. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to the Funkstown fire hall and Halfway Fire Co. She liked baseball and watching the Orioles.

At least three of four people in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport south of Martinsburg were being treated at a Virginia hospital Thursday, West Virginia State Police said. Berkeley County resident Jeremy Wright, his girlfriend, Danielle Combs of Inwood, W.Va., Wright's 8-year-old daughter and another man were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after the crash, which occurred at about 8 p.m. on Airport Road near Snooks Lane, according to Trooper B.D. French.

A driver was airlifted to a Virginia hospital Wednesday following a single-vehicle accident near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies say a blue Plymouth Neon was found resting in a field east of the intersection of Novak Drive and Airport Road. The driver, identified as Matthew Miller, no age or address given, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the release said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

One driver was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., after a two-car crash Saturday afternoon on Charles Town Road, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department deputy. A westbound Honda Civic veered into the eastbound lane at 3:49 p.m., striking a Toyota Camry head-on, Deputy A.S. Hockman said. The crash happened near the Cattail Run Road intersection, he said. The driver of the Honda was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for a possible broken femur, Hockman said.

A man whom Martinsburg Police shot in the chest and then shocked with a stun gun multiple times Sunday following a dispute was being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., police said Monday. Hospital spokesman Tony Raker said Douglas Charles Butler was not listed as a patient, but Detective S.F. Doyle said Butler, 44, was still at the hospital. Doyle declined to identify the officer who shot Butler. The officer was placed on paid administrative leave per standard procedure, Doyle said.
